Manzano 35, Volcano Vista 34
Week one of the high school football season kicked off Thursday Night as the Manzano Monarchs hosted the Volcano Vista Hawks in a match up that that been very close in each of the last two-seasons. Make that three years of close games, as the Monarchs were able to hold onto a 35-34 win to move to 1-0 on the season. The key play, came after a Volcano Vista Touchdown Pass when Reid Hendricks found 6-foot-5 receiver Connor Brown in the end-zone. On the very next play, Manzano's Todd Countee flew in to the pile and was able to block the PAT to give Manzano the thrilling victory. Full Recap/Top Players/Video Highlights Here
Sandia 37, West Mesa 3
Week one of the high school football season kicked off Thursday Night as the Sandia Matadors played the roll of visitor as they squared off against West Mesa Mustangs in a game that featured a very dominant Sandia team and a West Mesa team that struggled all night long but competed till the very end. The Matadors were able to pick up their first win in convincing fashion. The key to victory tonight was the size and strength of both the offensive line and defensive line for the Matadors, Sandia is looking good early on as they improve to 1-0 on the season and will look to continue their success in week 2 against Cibola, West Mesa drops to 0-1 and will look to bounce back and play up to their potential in week 2 against Manzano. El Paso El Dorado 28, Mayfield 23
The El Dorado Aztec's got all they could handle from the Mayfield Trojans Friday Night in a five point thrilling game throughout. The Aztecs got a touchdown pass off a 73-yard bomb to LeDerrick Wilson which was the game-breaker. With five lead changes in the game, Mayfield came out swinging and made a statement against one of the best from the El Paso Area. According the El Paso Times, Mayfield racked up 432-yards of offense and 19 penalties for 148-yards.
Grants 30, Santa Fe 26
In a battle between two 4A programs it was back and forth throughout the evening. Grants (1-0) coming into the season off it's first 4A playoff season are looking to build another positive season and come away with a game-winning 2-yard touchdown run by quarterback Cassius Corley. Grants RB Timothy White had an unofficial 278 yards on the night. Santa Fe High (0-1) who is much improved from last season quickly looks like a favorite to win District 2-4A was led by Anthony Abeyta who had just over 100 yards on the night.
Carlsbad 20, Roswell 6
The Carlsbad Cavemen now 1-0 on the season after holding the Roswell Coyotes to just six points in The Wool Bowl Friday Night. The key play of the game came just before the half, when junior quarterback Rodney Holcomb hit Marcus Arrington for a 13-yard touchdown pass. Holcomb also scored on a run on the night. The Cavemen now 1-0 on the year will take on Del Rio, Texas in week two.
Valley Rallies To Improve to 1-0
The Valley Vikings and the Cibola Cougars played on Friday night in the coaching debut of 1st year head coach Enrico Marcelli facing off against long time friend and mentor Judge Chaves of Cibola. The two football programs battled it out until the final whistle blew. The Vikings already look like one of the most improved teams from last year rallying back from 14 down to beat Cibola 31-28 at Milne Stadium. Retrurning to the Field is running back Esteban Lorea who missed some pre season reps. That didn't stop him from scoring twice, once on a receiving touchdown from Bo Coleman with just under a minute remaining to give the Vikings the lead. Bo Coleman had 260 yards passing on the night. Derek Martinez of Cibola had 4 touchdown passes and 260 passing yards as well in what was a very good friday night matchup. Final Score: Valley 31, Cibola 28

St. Michael's 46, Bloomfield 8
On the afternoon the Horsemen just looked like the better team play after play. Thanks in large part to Santo Coppola at the Tight end position, a kid who can be praised as one of the top three Tight end's in the State of New Mexico. At the Quarterback position Cory Serna looked great while out of the shotgun and while on the run hooking up with several Horseman receivers on the night and also running the ball when needed. Salomon Martinez is a guy who can play mostly every position on the field, but at running back is what he is best suited for, rushing for a few scores and forcing a big fumble there at the end to give the momentum back to St. Mikes. Atrisco Heritage 15, Eldorado 14
Eldorado Head Football Coach Charlie Dotson suspended 30 players in the first quarter of today's game against Atrisco Heritage and it was in the first quarter when Atrisco Heritage grabbed all the momentum they would need to pull off the week one shocker against Eldorado. The Jaguars went up 15-14 late in the game off an Atrisco HeritageTouchdown Pass from Nate Goode to his tight end with six mins left. Eldorado had an opportunity to take the lead, but fumbled off a speed option, Atrisco Jumped on the loose ball to call it a game. One of the bigger upsets in week one that we've had over of the last five years.?Sound off on the upset of the week here

Los Lunas 50, Aztec 28
Great night for the Los Lunas Tigers, showcasing their impressive running attack, as well as their salty defense. Offensively the Tigers were lead by Senior Quarterback Chris Wisneski who had a great game and was in control of his offense all night long. In the trenches Chris Romero had a big game creating holes for the two headed monster in the backfield. Headlining the rushing attack was Jalen Chaves and Darron Gallegos both kids can flat out ball and it showed in their elusive play styles tonight in Aztec. The two backs combined for about 48 points on the night and well over 250 yards of offense. Premium and Exclusive Recap/Highlights Here

Artesia 56, Lovington 7
The Artesia Bulldogs rolled Friday night against the Lovington Wildcats thanks to a monster performance from junior quarterback Trevor Eulenbach who threw for five touchdown passes (13-20, 352-yards, 5TD's) on the night, Artesia had over 500-yards of offense. Zane Pittam, Weston Leonard, and Zeke Montoya each contributed to the Bulldog's offensive efforts. The Bulldogs now 1-0 will travel to Hobbs in week two.

La Cueva 45, Cleveland 21
The Class 5A Defending State Champ's 13 game winnings streak was broken during the first Friday Night of the High School Football Season as La Cueva romped Cleveland 45-21 at Wilson Stadium. The Bears who had an outstanding performance from their defensive front seven were able to bottle up Cleveland's offense most of the night and on the offensive side of the football La Cueva Senior Michael Rose made a clear statement tonight that he is their game breaker making big plays on the ground and threw the air. La Cueva remembered last year's play-off loss and re-payed the favor to get the season started. Premium and Exclusive Recap/Highlights Here

Las Cruces 38, El Paso Chapin 14
The Las Cruces Bulldawgs the NMPreps.com Number One Ranked Team were led by Jonathan Joy who threw for 152-yards and two touchdown strikes. AJ Lucero scored on a 5-yard run, JJ Gradados added two scores, and Kamryn Dixon and Micahel Calzada each caught a touchdown pass. The Dawgs host the Eldorado Eagles in week two at the Field of Dreams, in what is likely the NMPreps.com Game of the Week.

Rio Rancho 54, Highland 0
The Rio Rancho Rams rolled Friday Night and made a clear statement that their pre-season hype was no hype as they ended the game by halftime against Highland. The Rams were led on offense by sophomore quarterback Easton Bruere who had a solid first outing as quarterback. The 6-foot-3, 185 pound sophomore threw for 386-yards and four touchdown passes. Ullises Astorga ran for 152-yards and two touchdowns and kicker Carlos Garcia kicked one 38-yard field goal and was 7-7 on PAT's. The Rams take on Gadsden next week.

Clovis 55, Capital 0
Clovis Wildcat Head Football Coach Eric Roanhaus is now the All-Time Winningest Coach in New Mexico High School Football History with 311 career victories. Roanhaus who took over in 1978 as Head Coach has won 10-State Championships. See the Roanhaus Timeline Here. The Wildcats mercy ruled Capital High School 55-0 thanks to Kamal Cass who scored four touchdowns including runs of 67 and 42-yards. The Wildcats are now 1-0 on the season

Gadsden 34, Hobbs 33
The Gadsden Panthers under New Head Football Coach Roy Gerela topped the Hobbs Eagles and New Head Football Coach Charles Gleghorn in a shootout Friday Night. The Eagles racked up more that 500-yards off offense and missed the PAT in the final minutes in what would tied the game at 34 points. Gadsden Quarterback Aaron Gomez and Receiver Joaquin Barns lead the way. Gadsden is now 1-0 and host the Rio Rancho Rams next week in Gadsden.

El Paso Bel Air 20, Onate 14
The Onate Knights suffered their first loss of the 2012 season losing to the Highlanders after trailing 14-0 at halftime. The Knights put 14 points up quickly in the second half, but could overcome a final score from the Highlanders in the end. Isaiah Fielder and Curtis Hynes each scored a touchdown for the Knights. Onate takes on El Paso Socorro in week two.

El Paso Americas JV 38, Centennial 35
The Centennial Hawks opened their first game in school history with a loss to an El Paso JV school Thursday Night at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Centennial was led by Daniel Conklin at running back who ran for 150-yards on the night. While the Hawks did give up a ton of offensive points, they too put points on the board and racked up close to 450-total yards of offense. Centennial Quarterback Queving Redding threw three touchdown passes on the day. Centennial plays El Paso High JV in week two.

Los Alamos 55, Pojoaque Valley 14
Los Alamos Hilltoppers (1-0) came into the contest and walked to a early 42-0 lead over Pojoaque Valley (0-1) who looked a little out of sink tonight under a new head coach. Quarterback Brice Van Etten threw for one touchdown and ran for a pair against Pojoaque. The Hilltoppers accounted for more than 250 yards on the night.

Trididad Edges out Academy
Despite the Chargers battling back from a 20-7 deficit the Chargers still had a chance to win the game in the final moments of the game. However the 41 yard field goal attempt to win the game was never actually attempted as a botched snap ended any hopes of completing a great comeback. Final Score: Trinidad CO 26, Alb. Academy 24
