Today we take a quick look at the top quarterbacks in Class 5A at the New Mexico High School Football Scene. Through two weeks of play a few quarterbacks have really jumped out as impact players.
The continued play of Zach Silva out of La Cueva High School has not been flashy, yet has been just on point. Silva has led the Bears to a 3-0 record and has made many accurate throws deep down the field to keep defenses off balances from stacking the box to stop their rush attack. Metro Area Quarterbacks as a whole have faired well early on.
Sandia's Craig Coffman at 6-3 and 202 pounds has led Sandia to two wins with his pocket style approach and big arm. Bo Coleman out of Valley has really turned into a gamer and he's just a junior this season. Another junior in the Metro Area is Manzano's Angel Gonzales who has Manzano at 2-0 and scored three touchdowns last week against West Mesa.
The list goes on included 5-foot-10, 136 pound Derek Martinez out of Cibola who flat out balled out in week one against Valley throwing four touchdowns. Last, but least we highlight Nate Goode out of Atrisco Heritage who has the Jaguars are 2-0 and of course we can't forget Sophomore Easton Bruere out of Rio Rancho.
The Class of 2015 Prospect has thrown for over 600-yards in two games and stands at 6-foot-3 and 188 pounds. He walked away with the NMPreps Elite Combine Quarterback MVP Award and has played "Elite" early on. Dipping down to Southern New Mexico, the hottest quarterback right now in the State is Jonathan Joy out of Las Cruces.
Joy, has clearly made a statement early on that he is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in New Mexico. Great poise in the pocket and has A+ accuracy throwing down field 20-yards plus. Three that are banged up: Zach Gentry out of Eldorado, Rodney Holcomb out Carlsbad, and Brayden Price out of Hobbs.
