La Cueva moves to 7-1 with 35-27 win over Eldorado

The visiting Eldorado Eagles and the hosting La Cueva Bears faced off in a District 2-5A showdown, in what will go down as another classic rivalry game between the two district foes on Thursday night at Wilson Stadium. Although the Bears had a 21 point lead going into the half the Eagles came out in the third quarter on fire and were lead on the night by Zach Gentry, who had 415 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

The district loss sets the Eagles back a bit and they as they are now below the .500 mark on the season (3-4) and are now (0-1) in district play. The Bears improve to (7-1) on the year and (1-0) in a very tough 2-5A district and this win helps solidify the Bears as one of the top 3 teams in 5A at this point in the season. La Cueva would be lead offensively by Michael Rose, who had a superb rushing effort o the night racking up 280 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground and a key interception on defense in the first half.

Also helping the Bears cause was Wide Receiver Chris Thompson who had a big night receiving with over 140 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Bears Quarterback Zach Silva lead the bears at the QB position on the night throwing for over 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, he also had 1 interception.

Defensively the Bears were lead by Calvin Allen and Chris Loidolt to very stout and effective defensive players. The road to state only gets tougher for both teams as the Bears get set to face off against Manzano in week 10, and The Eagles get set to showdown with Sandia in week 10.

Santa Teresa 34, Centennial 7
The Santa Teresa Desert Warriors moved to 2-6 on the year and 1-0 in district play with a massive win Thursday Night in Las Cruces over Centennial. The Desert Warriors were led by Quarterback A.J. Sedillo who ran for scores of 79 and 20 on the night. Sedillo would finish the night with close to 200-yards rushing on the night and also threw a touchdown pass.

Atrisco Heritage 62, Albuquerque 0
The Atrisco Heritage Jaguars moved to 6-2 Thursday Night with a 52-0 win over the Albuquerque Bulldogs. The Jaguars are just two district games away from being 8-2 on the year, a record that will be very difficult for the NMAA to leave out of the play-off tournament. On the year Atrisco has received big play from quarterback Nate Goode and Running Back Robert Alvidrez.

Los Lunas 56, Gallup 0
The Los Lunas Tigers moved to 8-0 this year with a mercy rule victory over the Gallup Bengals. The Tigers are now just two games away from finishing the year out undefeated. In their last four games, their team play has been phenomenal outscoring the competition 187-6. Los Lunas takes on Miyamura in week 10 and will end their regular season against district rival Valencia.
