Thursday Night Recap
La Cueva moves to 7-1 with 35-27 win over Eldorado
The visiting Eldorado Eagles and the hosting La Cueva Bears faced off in a District 2-5A showdown, in what will go down as another classic rivalry game between the two district foes on Thursday night at Wilson Stadium. Although the Bears had a 21 point lead going into the half the Eagles came out in the third quarter on fire and were lead on the night by Zach Gentry, who had 415 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
The district loss sets the Eagles back a bit and they as they are now below the .500 mark on the season (3-4) and are now (0-1) in district play. The Bears improve to (7-1) on the year and (1-0) in a very tough 2-5A district and this win helps solidify the Bears as one of the top 3 teams in 5A at this point in the season. La Cueva would be lead offensively by Michael Rose, who had a superb rushing effort o the night racking up 280 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground and a key interception on defense in the first half.
Also helping the Bears cause was Wide Receiver Chris Thompson who had a big night receiving with over 140 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Bears Quarterback Zach Silva lead the bears at the QB position on the night throwing for over 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, he also had 1 interception.
Defensively the Bears were lead by Calvin Allen and Chris Loidolt to very stout and effective defensive players. The road to state only gets tougher for both teams as the Bears get set to face off against Manzano in week 10, and The Eagles get set to showdown with Sandia in week 10.
