ONATE KNIGHTS (1-0) vs. ANDRESS (TX) (0-1)
Where: El Paso High School, El Paso, TX
Time: 5:30 PM
Grine's Pick: Knights + 1
Knights-Eagles Quick Hit
The Onate Knights come into the game off a, 60-34, stomping of Socorro High School (TX). The Knights who sit outside the NMPreps.com Top 25, are a next in line team looking to climb back into the Top-25 for the first time since January 2012. Rodney Anderson, the Knights guard will look to follow up his Tuesday performance with another win against a very good Andress (TX) program. The Eagles have some size and will look to rebuild on Thursday night.
Cellar Dweller Game
CHAPARRAL LOBOS (0-0) vs. GADSDEN PANTHERS (0-0)
Where: Chaparral High School, Anthony, NM
Time: 7:00 PM
Grine's Pick: Panthers +10
Lobos-Panthers Quick Hit
Let's be honest here, both programs haven't been relevant in New Mexico basketball in a few years now. Both squads are looking, as the title reads, to unleash the Demons inside (Movie 1988, Cellar Dweller). They both have key role players from a season ago and could get on some teams radar but both need early wins, wins like this one. It's all about building your resume and both teams could desperately use a (1-0) start to their season.
Why Watch This Game: Well, quite frankly, there is only two games on and if you are in the area, why not? You are able to see a head coach who has over 700 wins in Gadsden High School, head coach Michael Harper.
Players To Watch
Rodney Anderson, Onate High School: The Knights guard was well-rounded on Tuesday night, finishing with 14 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assist. Anderson, could be rise the charts this season in the NMPreps.com Top 100 Player Rankings.
Daemund McCants, Onate High School: This system works very well for Anderson (Rodney) and McCants as they both put their name in several stat columns. McCants finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists on Tuesday night.
George Hernandez, Gadsden High School: The 6'5 post player has sat patiently, not making the playoffs two straight seasons but the NMPreps.com Top 100 Players patience has wore off and he is looking to put the Panthers in the Top-25 and State Tournament.
Coach Who Needs This Game
Michael Haper, Gadsden High School: The Panthers administration is very lenient and the demand is not high but I think it's time to see this legendary coach back in the State Tournament. This could be a farewell tour or something to that sort as Harper will look to end his career with a bang, whenever that might be.
Fernando Hernandez, Chaparral High School: Hernandez really doesn't need this game but what coach doesn't dream of starting his head coaching career, 1-0. For a program that has taken it's beatings year-after-year, could the longtime assistant be the answer?
