NMPreps.com brings you assorted highlights of the Bulldog City Scrimmage where teams from around the state, mostly metro came together to get some competitive scrimmages going before heading into the season. NMPreps.com was there to catch some of the action seen on Thursday Night.
Albuquerque High: The Bulldogs looked "right where they needed to be" on the night according to Albuquerque High head coach and from the tale of the tape one can agree. The speed and athleticism of the Bulldogs was impressive on the night and starting point guard Mahlik Sims played some good ball on the night. Also looking in prime condition was James Croesdell who at 6'7'' can run the floor and will be a huge asset for the Bulldogs in 2012, aslo watch out for Bobby Montoya who can slice and dice in the paint.
Espanola Valley: The Sundevils although very young at this point look fresh, they look hungry and are always going to play some scrappy ball with coach Martinez at the helm. This rang true on Thursday night as Espanola relied upon defense and hustle to earn points against some of the taller teams at the event. The Sundevils will only benefit from getting banged up against these taller teams come district and coach Martinez wouldn't have it any other way as he is known for always wanting to play and schedule the toughest teams in the state to help better his program. Although the Sundevils look a little young this year they will still bring a fire to the court each time they play, and with the right attitude the Sundevils could even make some noise in the District tournament at the end of the year.
La Cueva: The season is still very young for the Bears but already Bryce Alford is making his presence felt as he has improved his passing game a decent amount and while the Bears are going to be short handed for the beginning of the 2012 hoops season they still have a chance to win every time out due to Bryce's elevated level of play. Another name emerging for the Bears this year is Jordan Clark who plays the power forward position, these two on the pick and roll will be tough to stop. The Bears may take some lumps early in the season if teams double team Bryce Alford and force the ball out of his hands but he seems to find the open player with ease, so it's a double edged sword for opposing teams. Rest assured the Bears will be where they need to be come districts.
Hope Christian: The Hope Christian Huskies are looking sharp in the pre-season so far and thats not including the players they are missing from Football. Coach Murphy has his boys playing unselfish ball as always and they are looking in shape and geared to make a run at the 3-A state title once again this year. Some go to guys for the Huskies this year will be Tommy Riley and Micah Murphy and Eric Anderson. Look for this years Huskies group to play tenacious defense and up-tempo offense each time they step on the court. You better bring your A game if you want to compete against Hope in 2012-2013
