FIRST ROUND

Moriarty Pintos 49, Taos Tigers 37
Moriarty High School (1-0) came in with the more experienced and proved to be a program on the rise Friday Night. Point guard Luke Thomas led the way for the Pintos with 12 points on the night. Guard Cody Howse and 6'6 freshman post Jake Flemming poured in 10 points in his first varsity game. The Tigers fall to (1-1) on the season and will play in the consolation game.

Bernalillo Spartans 97, Robertson Cardinals 62
The Bernalillo Spartans (1-0) came into the week known for the triple feature in the backcourt and they proved to be all we talked about. The three accounted for 73 of the Spartans 97 points. Brandon Saiz led the way with 31 points followed by Tristan Arnett with 26 and Aaron Griffith topped it off with 16 points. The Cadinals (0-1) just had no answer for the Spartans defense and buckets came easy for the Spartans who capitalized on lay-ups off steals.

Championship Saturday

BERNALILLO SPARTANS (1-0) vs. MORIARTY PINTOS (1-0)
Where: Bernalillo High School
Time: 7:30 PM
This game is very intriguing as two 4A teams that are trying to start the season strong led by their returning key players from a season ago. Both teams are looking to press this year and get points off transition. I like what both teams bring to the table and it could turn into a high scoring affair. The Pintos will have to handle the full court pressure that the Spartans will bring. Luke Thomas is a solid point guard for the Pintos but will need to control the tempo of this one. Bernalillo is going to look to run, run and run. The thing though is even if you slow them down they have one of 4A's top overall guards in Saiz who could knock it down from anywhere. It's going to be a fight that's for sure.
