January 11, 2013Thursday night action has come and gone and today we look at a few teams that boosted their resume.
Boys Basketball Recaps
Tularosa 65, Ruidoso 43 : The Tularosa Wildcats and the Ruidoso Warriors faced off on Thursday night in the Tularosa. With the win the Tularosa Wildcats improve to 8-4 on the season and outscored the Warriors 19-7 in the first quarter to help set the tone for the remainder of the game. Ruidoso would show some fight as they never gave up but they were fighting an uphill battle all night. The Warriors would fall to 6-6 following the loss. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Jim Coleman who had a game high 18 points and also helping out for the Wildcats was Brett Saenz who added 14 points. Ishmial Lapaz lead Ruidoso with a team high 17 points.
Santa Fe High 58, Belen 53 : The Santa Fe High Demons took on the Belen Eagles in Santa Fe on Thursday night. With the win the Demons stay a steady 500. at 7-7 on the year and have a lot of momentum going into their next matchup against the Eldorado Eagles. For Belen the loss has the Eagles at a steady 5-5 on the year as they played a good game against a quality opponent on the night. Leading the way for Belen was Zach Martin who had a team high 21 points. For the Demons leading the way offensivly was Elliot Nicholas who had a team high 19 points followed up by a 16 point performance by Wyatt Honstein who had 16 points of his own.
Capital 55, Moriarty 42 : The Capital Jaguars and the Moriarty Pintos faced off on Thursday night as it was the Jaguars who would come away victorious despite having a 12 day lay-off. THe Jaguars would improve to 12-1 on the year following the impressive showing on the night. Leading the way for the Jaguars was Christian Martinez who had a game high 22 points and also helping the Jaguar cause was Mikey Lopez who had 18 points to help out the Jaguars cause.
Santa Fe Prep 64, Questa 40 : The Santa Fe Prep Blue Griffins took on the Questa Wildcats in Questa on Thursday night and it was the Blue Griffins who would come away with the win on the road. Tex Ritter lead the charge for the Blue Griffins who continued their winning ways with a game high 21 points and also helping the Santa Fe Prep Blue Griffins was D.J. Casados who had 14 points of his own.
McCurdy 67, Penasco 39 : The McCurdy Bobcats took on the Penasco Panthers and it was the Bobcats who would walk away victorious. The Bobcats would improve to 8-5 on the season following the lopsided victory and the charge was lead offensively by Daniel arroyo who had a team high 26 points, also chipping in for the Bobcats was Christopher Serrano who added 13 points of his own for the Bobcats.
Piedra Vista 53, Fruita Colorado 39. : The Piedra Vista Panthers faced off against out of state Fruita Colorado in the Rumble in the Jungle tournament in Aztec on Thursday Night. The Panthers would improve to 7-8 on the year following the blowout victory. Leading the way for Piedra Vista was Ty Jacquez who had a game high 22 points and also helping out was Jake Armijo who had 11 points.
Aztec 90, Bayfield Colorado 70 : The Aztec Tigers and battled it out with Bayfield Colorado on Thursday night in the annual Rumble in the Jungle Torunament which takes place in Aztec NM. For the Tigers the win puts them at 5-5 and another high scoring affair. Leading the way for the Tiger offensively was Wyatt Schlueter who had a game high 28 points and Kyle Dodd who had 18 of his own to help the Tigers advance to take on Bloomfield in a rematch from this Tuesday where the two team combined for 186 points.
Sandia Prep 67, Grants 42 : The Sandia Prep Sundevils took on the Grants Pirates on Thursday night and it was a lopsided affair from the get go as the Sundevils were able to outscore the Pirates 18-9 in the 1st quarter and would never look back. The Sundevils improve to 9-2 on the year. The Sundevils were lead on the night by Jonny Doran who had a team high 13 points and 3 steals, but also helping out was Zach Tenorio who had 11 points and 5 rebounds.
