We are witnessing greatness at the New Mexico High School Basketball scene in 2013. The two names: Bryce Alford and Cullen Neal are not just players we will remember from this season alone, but rather names that we will now remember forever.
Tuesday Night in Eldorado's 89-79 win over La Cueva Bryce Alford and Cullen Neal combined for 91 total points. Each of the two D-1 commits is now among the top 10 all-time leading scorers in New Mexico Prep Basketball History.
Alford who is committed to play for his father Steve Alford the Head Basketball Coach at the University of New Mexico after this season surpassed Artesia's Derek Montoya (Scoring a career high 52 on the night) to become the 2nd all-time scorer in New Mexico High School Basketball History. Infact, just one other Albuquerque Metro Area Player (Pat McDougal of Manzano) has scored more points in a single game which was 53 back in 1977.
Eldorado's Cullen Neal scored 39 points Tuesday night to push his career point total to 2,170 which is sixth all-time in the New Mexico High School scoring race. Neal who is committed to Saint Mary's scored an Albuquerque Metro Area season record 831 points during his junior season, but Alford topped that record last night with his 52 point game as he has now scored 886-total points in this season alone.
It means, that Alford is now the All-Time leading scorer from the City of Albuquerque (Career/Season) as well as the number one scorer career wise at the Class 5A level in New Mexico High School Basketball History.
The all-time scoring record in a season is owned by St. Michael's Nick Pino in 1962-63 who scored 1,033 points. The all-time career scoring leader is owned by Isaac Bejarano of Hagerman who scored 2,516 career playing from 2003-2006.
Alford has scored over 40 points 11 times this season. During the Albuquerque Public Schools Tournament Alford scored 45 points against Volcano Vista, which you can re-live by watching the highlights below.
