Week Twelve:The season continues to bring surprises and Tuesday night could be another night of shocking wins.

Grine: Lessons Learned


1. The Sartans live up to No. 6 rank: Text messages and e-mails flooded on Monday morning when the NMPreps.com Top-25 from trusted NMPreps Nation members when they seen St. Pius X Sartans ranked 6th in the Top-25. Well, Thursday night they lived up to the rank beating Cibola High School, 45-42.

2. Volcano gets the resume booster: Another hot topic was the Volcano Vista Hawks (No. 13 NMPreps.com Top-25) getting a 6-seed in the latest NMPreps.com Road To The PIT over the Eldorado Eagles and Clovis Wildcats who are both ranked higher than VV but seed purposes sat at 7 and 8. Well, the Hawks made worth of the 6-seed beating Eldorado 52-48, right before Districts.

3. No. 17 Albuquerque still a threat: After a few set back losses the Bulldogs redeem themselves a tad with the ten point win over an improving West Mesa Mustangs. The District is in a four way rumble with Valley leading the way in 5-5A.

Prime Time Player: Sam Haywood


The Volcano Vista senior guard led the Hawks to a big 52-48 win over the eight ranked Eldorado Eagles. Haywood led the way with 20-points on the night.

Starting Five:

  • Nic Stafford, SPX: 12 points
  • Adonis Saltes, Valley: 31 points
  • Joe Brooks, Atrisco Heritage: 17 points
  • James Croasdell, Albuquerque High: 11 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks.

    Nominate: Week 12 Player of the Week.

    Thursday Sprints


    District 5-5A: No. 11 Atrisco Heritage 74, Highland 58. In the other 5-5A game it was the Jaguars moving right along against Highland. Guards Corbin Waquie (15) and Joe Brooks (17) led the way in scoring.

    Building their resume for March: Santa Fe Prep 57, Mora 45. The Blue Griffins continue to make a mark and improve on their 17-2 season. They are looking for a top seed in March and could see a 1-4 seed.

    Yawn: No. 1 La Cueva 81, Del Norte 67. The Bears are getting ready for the brutal District 2-5A season and this was a walk through game to get them ready. The Bryce Alford continue to the scoring record is unknown as we don't have point totals from last night.

    Good win. No. 12 Carlsbad 69, Goddard 54. After losing big to Roswell on Tuesday night the Cavemen got some fuel back with a 15-point win over Goddard.

    Eye on No. 1: Small School Division Laguna-Acoma 68, Wingate 42. The number one team in small school division basketball (2A-1B) beat up on big school division team Wingate on Thursday night.
