Today we have updated our Girls High School Basketball Top 25.
#1 ranked Clovis for the thiNMPreps.com's 2013 All-Senior Teamrd week in a row is riding a 17 game winning streak. Dannie Williams out of the Class of 2015 is playing big time down the stretch. The Wildcats are 21-3 and will finish district play next weekend against Carlsbad and Hobbs. #2 ranked Mayfield is led by the Talented Senior Daeshi McCants.
The Trojans beat cross town rival Las Cruces last week 66-57 and are 6-0 in district play. #3 ranked La Cueva is 19-3 is hot and now 5-0 in district play with recent district wins against Eldorado, Manzano, and Sandia. Super Sophomore Alexa Romano leads the way. #4 ranked Hope Christian out of Class 3A could likely play for the 5A state title as they are that talented this year.
A few weeks back they beat Hobbs and a few days after they beat Santa Fe Indian their district rival. The Huskies will taken on Santa Fe Indian is the Game of the Week on February 20th. #5 Santa Fe Indian and Danielle Nelson take on Hope Christian next as mentioned. A win against Hope would certainly move them up in the rankings. Their season losses come against Las Cruces, Hope, and Espanola Valley.
#6 ranked Hobbs started out very hot this year, but in their last five games, the Eagles are 2-3 with losses against Eldorado, Hope, and Clovis. Their loss against Clovis raised eyebrows after the Eagles were blown out by 20 points. They take on the Wildcats again on the 22nd of February.
#7 ranked Cibola is a team that no one is talking about for some reason, but let's not forget two important facts. One is they are 19-3 this season and riding a 12 game winning streak and two, they are coached by Lori Mabrey who is one of the top New Mexico Basketball Coaches period. They close out district against Rio Rancho and Volcano Vista. #8 ranked Eldorado really has the talent to make a run at the whole thing once again, but recent losses against Cibola and La Cueva give the impression they might just be an Elite Eight type team.
#9 Volcano Vista and Head Coach Lisa Villareal are still in the mix. While they are 2-2 in District they have the talent to play sleeper come March Madness. Not sure if you ever call this team a sleeper, but you get the idea. Volcano Vista will finish out district against Cleveland and Cibola. Watch for impact player Hannah Fenske.
#10 ranked Las Cruces is coming off a 66-57 loss to Mayfield. Previous to that loss they were riding a five game winning streak. If they get a home game in the play-offs which is likely, expect this team to be a tough out in The Pit. Kayla Sparks along with Amber Fratzola lead the way.
