Deep Talent Pool
Class 5A has some big time quarterbacks which makes our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team selections tough. You have Carlsbad's Rodney Holcomb who has thrown for 1,137-yards this season with a 14/5 touchdown to interception ration.
There is Highland Quarterback Bryan Medina who has thrown for 1,126-yards and 10 touchdowns, Kian Homme out of Cleveland who has led the Storm to a strong 4-0 start, Easton Burere out of Rio Rancho who just threw for 7 touchdowns against Clovis. Bo Coleman from Valley and Derek Martinez from Cibola, loaded, loaded group of quarterbacks this year.
Then there is the young guns like Zach Gentry of Eldorado, Kavika Johnson of Mayfield, and Kameron Miller of Las Cruces. It's a loaded group to choose from.
Class 4A you have Aztec's Marcus Crawford who continues to put up big numbers. He has thrown for 1,119-yards this year with a 13/4 touchdown to interception ratio.
Anthony Sanchez from Los Lunas has really impressed this year throwing for 955-yards and 14 touchdowns as just a sophomore. You can't forget about Centennial's three year starter in Quevin Redding. One of the top dual threat quarterbacks in New Mexico.
Overall in Class 4A you have a heavy corps of teams that runs the football 60-75% of the time meaning the majority of players in this class are going to have a more balanced set of stats combined with passing yards and rushing yards.
For example, Deming's David Padron has thrown for just over 300-yards this year and had just under 200-yards rushing. You're going to find a lot of dual threat quarterbacks in Class 4A year in and year out.
Class 3A is headlines by St. Michael's Keith Dominguez who has thrown for over 400-yards this year with 7 touchdowns. Dominguez has picked up right where former St. Michael's Quarterback Cory Serna left off.
Also watch out for Bloomfield's Robert Lyon who is having a monster season leading the Bobcats. From Silver you have next level talent Derek Salas who is having a fantastic year.
Ruidoso's Cade Patterson is another one to watch as he has thrown for 8 touchdowns and 600-yards this year.
Of course it helps when you have one of the best receivers in the State in Parker Johnson to throw to.
Class 2A is going to be led stats wise by Tyler Sorensen who threw for a state record 630-yards back in week 4.
On the year Sorensen has thrown for a ridiculous 20 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions.
The top quarterback talent wise in Class 2A however is about 280 miles from where Sorensen plays and it's Hatch Valley Quarterback Chase Carson.
Last weekend against West Las Vegas Carson threw for 239-yards and ran for 121-yards. He puts up numbers like that weekly.
Class 1A you have two premier quarterbacks in Hagerman's Alejandro Ramos who has thrown for 734-yards and 10 touchdowns and Escalante's Reynaldo Atencio who has thrown for 726-yards and also 10 touchdowns.
