Buzz: When our staff recently tweeted that Clovis was up nearly 40 against Lovington at halftime, a user responded with a question, "Are they the dream team or something?" Pretty much, this group under Jeff Reed is ranked No. 1 in New Mexico for good reason. As a a team they are scoring 64.4 points per game and have some giant wins this year. They beat Pal Duro, TX 75-28, beat St. Pius X 73-61, beat Lovington 67-44, beat Hobbs by 7, beat Roswell 53-37, beat Sandia 63-9 and beat Lovington again 76-25. Danni Williams who is just a junior is the overall top ranked player by NMPreps.com as she averages more than 20 points per game. Brandi Gomez and Carrie Sharp are also players to know. They end January with games against La Cueva and then play Volcano Vista on the 25th, which should be the Game of the Month and quite possibly a preview of this year's State Title Game.

Buzz: Head Coach Lisa Villareal has emerged over the years to become one of the top basketball coaches in New Mexico and this year she lead the Lady Hawks to an impressive 8-0 season to start the new year. They scored an incredible 91 points back in November, beat Eldorado by 11, beat Valley by more than 20 and ended the 2013 season with a 61-48 win over EP Franklin. The program that continues to turn out big time hoops players is led by Hannah Fenske a three year starter and also Bianca Perez, two senior leaders who are among the best in the State of New Mexico.

Buzz: The Lady Huskies are always in the mix come the late season for a state championship and this year is no different. Head Coach Terry Heisey does not have many seniors on the roster, in fact just track Escajeda will be graduating this year. Their talent level is very high despite their youth with wins already against La Cueva, Academy, Las Cruces, and a very impressive win over Los Lunas. They will enter the APS Metro Tournament in mid-January then take on Cibola, Eldorado, Manzano, and open up February with a trip to Hobbs.

Buzz: Head Basketball Coach Joe Estrada is one of the best in the business and at 7-2, the Lady Wildcats look like one of the Southern New Mexico teams to beat for the 2014 season. They have just 4 seniors on their roster, but underclassmen like Kyanne Kowatch have propelled this team early on. They have two losses which come against St. Michael's and Cliff. They have games against Goddard, Portales, and Dexter in mid-January. Their strength of schedule should only help them distance themselves talent wise from the rest of 6-2A.
Buzz: The Rangerettes are 7-0 this season, straight rolling entering the 2014 portion of the basketball season. They have some solid wins on the season including a nearly 30 point win over Santa Rosa and a 31 point win over Coronado. They take on Robertson, Mesa Vista, Questa, and play Clayton twice in the Month of January. Watch for Destiny Pacheco and Gerty Herrera. They are clearly tops in their district and regarded as one of the most talented teams in 2A. Can they bring home of the blue in 2014?
