36HighlandAlbuquerqueNM0-037
Highland Hornets
Highland loses some big time athletes like Rishad Ortiz and Mustafa Mudada, but the good news is they return three year starter Bryan Medina at quarterback. The Hornets are always going to have speed, but their offense line needs to step up.
37West MesaAlbuquerqueNM0-038
West Mesa Mustangs
The Mustangs will enter year two of the Ron McMath Era. Last year was a learning experience, but this year West Mesa could be that spoiler team from District 5-5A. They return an athlete we'll see at the NMPreps.com Elite Combine: Khmaree McCray who is a top multi-purpose athlete.
38CibolaAlbuquerqueNM0-040
Cibola Cougars
The last year under long time Head Coach Judge Chavez was a difficult one with Cibola going 1-9 on the season. This year, Rod Williams takes over as Head Coach. They will be led by Derek Martinez at Quarterback and watch for athletes like Blair Manly and Ray Garza to provide a good 2013 spark. Getting back above .500 is achievable.
39RobertsonLas VegasNM0-039
Robertson Cardinals
The Robertson Cardinals are a team to watch this year in Class 3A. Over the last few years their talent has not dropped off, but let's face it they have not been as good as those mid 2000 season. This year: Dominic Lucero, Francisco Arguello, and James Gonzales return. 3A Sleeper?
40ValenciaLos LunasNM0-041
Valencia Jaguars
Year two under Head Coach Kevin Jolley starts now and don't worry for too long Jags fans the winning ways should be returning soon. Last year Valencia was very young, but with athletes like Nate Nash and Josh Burbank returning, Valencia County is likely to have three play-off teams this year.
41Los AlamosLos AlamosNM0-036
Los Alamos Hilltoopers
Head Coach Garrett Williams will continue to try and get this program tops in the district. Last year the Toppers missed out on the play-offs. This year they return quarterback Brice Van Etten who should have a strong senior season.
42BloomfieldBloomfieldNM0-042
Bloomfield Bobcats
Bloomfield is a bit of a question mark heading into the 2013 season. We know they are the front runner in the district, but how good are simply? They return a very good two-year starting quarterback in Robery Lyon. This program has never been a walk over, but when was the last time they made some serious noise?
43TexicoTexicoNM0-043
Texico Wolverines
No one is talking about Texico in the pre-season, yet they went 9-2 last season. The Wolerines are Coached by Ryan Autrey a very solid up and coming Head Coach. They return some good size including 6-foot-4 170 pound Adrian Gomez.
44TularosaTularosaNM0-044
Tularosa Wildcats
Many are expecting Tularosa to take a step back, but we are not that sure. Over the last few years Tularosa has been tops in 2A. They lose Jim Coleman, Jared Rocha, and Cameron Martinez to graduation. Pretty sure new names will step up in 2013.
45Hope ChristianAlbuquerqueNM0-0NR
Hope Christian Huskies
The Hope Christian Huskies has a slow start during the 2012 season, but managed to make a run in the play-offs before losing to St. Michael's 32-10. They lose their entire defensive line, but return a few skilled athletes. New Coach Diego Brusales takes over for Darrell Kindig.
46Del NorteAlbuquerqueNM0-0NR
Del Norte Knights
The Del Norte Knights went 2-8 last year under first year Head Coach Bruce Binkley. The good news is that they lose zero key contributors from last year and return a dangerous one-two punch in Daryl Winnings and Tyrelle Jackson.
47TaosTaosNM0-0NR
Taos Tigers
The Tigers made 3A in the North a bit more interesting last year with some key wins over Hope Christian and even made a run at the District 2-3A title. This year they return top flight running back Isaac Gonzales.
48Albuquerque AcademyAlbuquerqueNM0-0NR
Academy Chargers
Each year it's tough to tell which athletes will rise to the occasion for the Chargers, but as long as Kevin Carroll is at the helm as Head Coach it does not seem to matter as they seem to forge a run into the play-offs each year.
49SocorroSocorroNM0-0NR
Socorro Warriors
There has been quite of bit of recent turnover at the Head Coaching Position, but that really has not stopped this football program from reaching the play-offs over the last five years. Socorrro always has athletes, watch for Zeb Esquivel in 2013.
50Santa TeresaSanta TeresaNM0-0NR
Santa Teresa Desert Warriors
Seems like sooner or later Santa Teresa is going to have their season they have been waiting for on the football field. We've seen it in hoops and in baseball and with a great amount of returners back for the 2013 season, maybe Santa Teresa can emerge as a play-off team. WAtch for Jose Cervantes, Juna Carlos Parra, and Sammy Portillo, each at the linebacker position.
51DexterDexterNM0-0NR
Dexter Demons
The 2012 Dexter Demons went 7-5 during the 2012 season. This year's team is still a bit unknown, but they do return several skill position players from last season. Jury still out on this group heading into the 2013 season.
52ClaytonClaytonNM0-0NR
Clayton Yellow Jackets
The Head Coaching door continues to rotate. Last year frsit year Head Coach Ken Robinson and the Jackets went 7-5. Robinson is our, former Capitan Coach Collin Justiss is in. Talent returns with Nick Wismen at running bak ans 280 defensive linemen Dakota Montoya. If this senior class and Justiss get off to a good start, Clayton could be very, very good.
53PortalesPortalesNM0-0NR
Portales Rams
Under first year Head Coach Jaime Ramirez, the Rams went just 2-8 losing to Robertson 40-26 in the play-offs. They were shutout by district opponents a combined 68-0 during 2012 and overall were shut out a combined four times last season. Will this team take a step forward in 2013?
54TucumcariTucumcariNM0-0NR
Tucumcari Rattlers
The Rattlers went 8-4 last season before losing to Hatch Valley in the quarterfinals of the play-offs 33-13. Head Coach Wayne Ferguson has kept Tucumcari Football in the 2A conversation over the last two-years, but what will the 2013 season hold? They lose Dillon Wood and Luke Smith. Returning is Saul Moreil at Linebacker.
55GrantsGrantsNM0-0NR
Grants Pirates
The Grants Pirates went 5-5 last year under now former Head Coach Dale Hooper who recently has taken the head coaching position in Alamogordo. The New Head Coach is Nicholas Williams who heads to Grants from San Antonio, Texas. Key returners include Athlete Jacob Willcox along with Rosendo Jaramillo.
56EscalanteTierra AmarillaNM0-0NR
Escalante Lobos
The Lobos won their first state title in school history under Head Coach Dusty Giles in 2012 beating Capitan in the title game 48-30. The Lobos return some top tier talent including Reynaldo Atencio and Cody Casados. Atencio threw for 1,143-yards last year and ran for 2,779 with 46 touchdowns. Casados ran for 1,440-yards and 17 touchdowns.
57LordsburgLordsburgNM0-0NR
Lordsburg Mavericks
The Mavericks went 6-6 last year before losing the quarterfinal play-off round against eventual champ Santa Rosa 53-0. They lose Wendell Hayes, who was one of the fastest overall backs in New Mexico last year, but the good news is they return some experience over from the 2012 season. Watch for Adam Murillo at Quarterback.
58HagermanHagermanNM0-0NR
Hagerman Bobcats
Last year Head Hagerman Football Coach Casey Crandall led Hagerman to a 9-2 season and it's likely that this team could be as good or better than their 2012 campaign with some dangerous offensive talent returning. Quarterback Alejandro Ramos will be a junior and watch for Jose Bejarano at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds to be one of the top play-makers in Class 1A.
59CapitanCapitanNM0-0NR
Capitan Tigers
Last year Capitan started the season 0-3, before making a run to the state title game only to lose to Escalante 48-30. The headline leading into this summer is the resignation of Head Coach Collin Justiss who is the new Head Coach at Clayton High School. While the Head Coach has left, the talent for the 2013 season remains. Watch for Thomas Fields at Linebacker and Dillon Trapp at Defensive End to keep this program in the 1A mix.
60Kirtland CentralKirtlandNM0-0NR
Kirtland Central Broncos
It's been a while since Kirtland Central has been in the play-off hunt, in fact we have to rewind all the way to the 2008 season when former Head Coach Charles Gleghorn led the Broncos to an 8-4 season. The Broncos were 3-7 in 2012 losing their final game of the season to Aztec 63-0. Good news is 6-foot-4, 265 pound Christian Mackey returns at defensive end.
61MccurdyEspanolaNM0-0NR
McCurdy Bobcats
McCurdy lost 41-34 to rival Esclanate to miss out on a trip to the 2012 1A state title. One of the more underrated Head Coaches in New Mexico in Eric Vigil should again make a run, but they do lose Eric Vigil who had a Mr. Football type season accounting for over 2,000-yards of offense in 2012. Returning is Daniel Arroyo and Chris Serrano.
62Ft SumnerFort SumnerNM0-0NR
Ft. Sumner Foxes
The Foxes went 6-6 last season losing to Capitan in the semifinals 22-8. Year in and year out this small school power house is a force on the football field. They lose Shilo Boyle and Dallas McDaniel two top tier athletes that will be tough to replace. Look for Junior To Be Garrett Hisel to step it up in 2013.
63Rio GrandeAlbuquerqueNM0-0NR
Rio Grande Ravens
The Rio Grande Ravens scored just 11 points per game during the 2012 season under Head Coach Jim Danner. They did end the season beating Albuquerque 43-14 to finish district with a record of 2-8.
64Mesilla Valley Chrn SchoolLas CrucesNM0-0NR
Mesilla Valley Son Blazers
Just two short seasons ago, Mesilla Valley won the 1A State Title, but since the departure of former Head Coach Charles Gleghorn along with the move up to Class 2A the Son Blazers have struggled. Last year they won't just four games under Mike Draper. We are going to find out which direction this program is headed this season.
65GallupGallupNM0-065
Gallup Bengals
The Gallup Bengals were able to beat City Rival Miyamura in the last game of the season 26-20 to end on a positive note after losing four in a row in district. Head Coach Cyle Balok has had some talent over the years, but the district competition in 6-4A is always stacked making mistakes late in the season play-off costly.
66MiyamuraGallupNM0-053
Miyamura Patriots
The Patriots went 2-8 last year and went 0-5 in the district season losing to Gallup in the final game of the 2012 season. They lose the big arm of Quarterback Zach Shank.
67EstanciaEstanciaNM0-067
Estancia Bears
Last year the Estancia Bears were 4-6 under first year Head Coach Stewart Burnett. the program has still floated around the .500 mark even with the instability of Head Coaches over the last five years.
68BernalilloBernalilloNM0-068
Bernalillo Spartans
Don't overlook Bernalillo because of their 2-8 2012 season. This group returns most of their 2012 starters and while he does not get a lot of credit Head Coach Ken Noel won back to back district titles just a few years back. Complete Spring Preview Linked Here
69Pojoaque QSanta FeNM0-069
Pojoaque Elks
2nd year head football John Ainsworth lead the Elks to a 5-6 season in 2012. Pojoaque has had five head football coaches over the last seven seasons. This year, the Elks return quite a few returners from last season, but will it be enough to compete in District 2-3A?
70RatonRatonNM0-070
Raton Tigers
The Raton Tigers have fell off the 3A map since the departure of D-1 Quarterback Dustin Walton. Last year they were 1-8, but the good news is Brock Walton remains as Head Coach and his pass attack should again be ready to roll in 2013. Group returns some quality prospects.
71EuniceEuniceNM0-071
Eunice Cardinals
29-year old Caleb Aldridge will enter his second season as Head Coach of the Eunice Cardinals. Last year the Cars went 3-7, but the expectations are higher in 2013 with Alex Zamora and Eric Leyva leading the way at running back. Also watch for offensive linemen Iyvan Tercero.
72AlbuquerqueAlbuquerqueNM0-072
Albuquerque Bulldogs
Tim Garro replaces Mike Zufall as Head Coach as the Head Coaching Door continues to rotate for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs had a few players sign with Eastern New Mexico this recruiting season, so the talent is there. This team has not won a game in several seasons, will that change in 2013?
73New Mexico Military InstituteRoswellNM0-073
NMMI Colts
You really never know what you are going to get each year at NMMI, but we do know that they have a well seasoned Head Coach in Randy Montoya. Last year the Colts went 2-8 and missed the 2012 play-offs. This year, watch for returning stand out Blade Allen at 6-foot-3 and 189 pounds to be a game breaker.
74Espanola ValleyEspanolaNM0-074
Espanola Valley Sundevils
Last year first year head coach Miguel Medina helped the Espanola Valley Sundevils break a two-year losing streak being West Las Vegas 26-6. Though they finished the season 2-8, they enter the season with good momentum. If Medina stays this program could slowly turn the corner.
75RamahRamahNM0-075
Ramah Mustangs
During the 2012 season, the Ramah Mustangs went 8-3, but ended the season losing to Dexter 56-6. Their offense was dangerous under Head Coach Carlett Daniels as they scored 438 points on the year. Could they make another run towards the play-offs in 2013?
