THE STORYLINE: More than a game each time these two New Mexico High School Football Powers step on the field against one-another. If you have any sort of connection to Las Cruces, New Mexico you know the meaning of this game even if you're not a prep football fan. This weekend the two will square off at Aggie Memorial Stadium for a game that is sure to top the 20,000 attendance mark. The Mayfield Trojans enter the game at 6-3 and while they have two losses they are still 6-1 against New Mexico 5A teams, in fact it's a better record than Las Cruces has against 5A teams. The Trojans have seem to of found their offense as of late scoring 45.25 points per game with some monster wins in the district. Quarterback Andrew Serna, Running Back Marcus Inglemon, and Athlete Brandon Thelan can each make the big play and then their is back-up quarterback Kavika Johnson that can also sub in for Serna to make the big run or pass. Mayfield's defense is allowing 19.8 points per game and up front they are led by Devonte Weeks at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Martine Tarango, and at linebacker watch for Santiago Miranda along with Joah Franzoy as two backs that are game changers. To all those who continue to doubt Mayfield, the Green Machine will see you soon. Las Cruces High is 7-1 this coming off a 50-0 mercy rule on Gadsden thanks to a four touchdown performance from J.J. Grandados. The Bulldawg's offense is scoring 43.75 points per game and they have a ton of weapons to chose from. Quarterback Jon Joy has thrown for over 1,500-yards and more than 15 touchdowns on the season. Michael Holguin, Austin Salas, Mikey Calzada, and Jalen Bishop are four players that don't get enough credit for being top tier players on the offensive side of the football. On defense, Las Cruces is allowing 18.12 points per game and it's been their defensive tackles that has given problems to team in each game this year. 300 pound duo Taylor Tisby and Jacob Benegas are the best TNT combo in the State of New Mexico, throw in 6-foot-4, 225 pound Kamryn Dixon and 220 pound Sam Denmark at Linebacker you have one of the best front seven we've seen In New Mexico in quite some time. It's Las Cruces/Mayfield and it simply does not get bigger. See you there.

Onate 3-6 @ Alamogordo 2-7
Two teams out of the play-offs playing for some late season senior pride in this one. The Onate Knights just three game winners in 2012 more than likely feel they should of won at least three more games this season being involved in some tight one along the way. On the season Quarterback Cutis Hynes has had a solid season numbers wise and running back Isaiah Fielder has been the biggest surprise rushing for over 1,000-yards and likely an All-State Candidate. On defense Onate is allowing 32.3 points per game, they are led by Geoff Smelser at linebacker, a player that would start for any team in New Mexico. The Alamogordo Tigers are 2-7 this year after losing to Mayfield last weekend 48-12. The Tigers are led by Cody Afar and John Matzke this year, two athletes that can take it the distance when they get into open space. Alamogordo is allowing 26.9 points per game this salon.

Chaparral 0-9 @ Santa Teresa 2-7
The Chaparral Lobos lost their ninth game of the season against Centennial last weekend 33-28. Chaparral has been in some close games this year, but it's likely they are going winless this year unless they can pull off a giant upset against Santa Teresa. The two bright spots this year for Chaparral has been quarterback duo John Marquez and Receiver Christian Ramos that have connected for over 1,000-yards this season. The Lobos are scoring just 15.9 points per game and allowing 39.2 points per game on defense. The Santa Teresa Desert Warriors lost in a tight one last week against Deming 21-14 and coming into this rivalry game, they need a win to carry over into the off-season. On the year, the play of Quarterback Alex Sedillo has been impressive as he has accounted for over 2,000-yard all purpose and 15 touchdowns. The Desert Warriors are scoring 25.7 points per game and allowing 27.9. Take Santa Teresa big in this one.

Deming 7-2 @ Centennial 5-4
The Deming Wildcats are now in the drivers seat to grab a top six seed in the play-offs if they can get past a young Centennial team this weekend in their final district game of the season. Deming beat Santa Teresa last week 28-21 and all season they have been led by running back duo Ismail Garrett and Jerome Sandoval. At Quarterback the young Sophomore David Padron is really starting to come around, a few weeks back he threw for four touchdowns against Chaparral. Deming is scoring 26.4 points per game and their only season losses come against Belen and Artesia. The Centennial Hawks are 5-4 and still alive in the play-off hunt if they can pull off an upset over Deming this weekend. They beat Deming, things get interesting… Centennial is more like a cross varsity team and jv team in their first year as a program and they have been banged up this year because of lack of depth. Quarterback Queving Redding is their saving grace for this weekend.

Hot Springs 1-8 @ Silver 7-2
The Hot Springs Tigers have another tough district match up this week. Hot Springs the only small school that stayed around in the district 3-3A with Silver and Socorro has been on the bottom side of the district and bottom side of the 3A all year long losing their last six in a row. Hot Springs is scoring 23.7 points per game and are led offensively by quarterback/running back Nati Villa. Silver is 7-2 on the year and they are coming off a monster 42-14 win over Socorro last weekend. Seems like Silver is very eager to make a statement in these final weeks after their 28-21 loss to St. Michael's back in week nine. Watch for the Bencomo Twins along with Derek Salas at quarterback, and the very underrated Justin Trewern at linebacker. Silver should dominate.

Tularosa 7-2 @ Cobre 3-6
The Tularosa Wildcats finish strong in week 11 and they are likely the No. 2 seed in the 2A New Mexico High School Football Play-Offs after Saturday Night. Tularosa is led by Jim Coleman and Cameron Martinez at linebacker. The Wildcats are scoring 34.0 points per game and are coming off a 59-7 win over Mesilla Valley in week 11. The Cobre Indians are 3-6 on the year after falling to Hatch last weekend 17-6. Cobre is 0-3 in District 3-2A play.

Mesilla Valley 4-4 @ Hatch 6-3
The Mesilla Valley Son Blazers' backs are against the way. They lose this game and they are likely out of the 2A play-offs. Mesilla lost a key game against Lordsburg last weekend 28-20. Mesilla Valley is led by Running Back John Jung and Receiver Christian Jimenez. The Hatch Valley Bears are 6-3 after a 17-6 win over Cobre. Hatch is led by quarterback Chase Carson who has thrown for over 1,500-yards this year as a junior. The Bears come into this game scoring 31.8 points per game.
