Rio Rancho vs Cleveland 2 from NMPreps.com

Class 5A

Las Cruces 36, Mayfield 13
The Las Cruces Bulldawgs finished the season 8-1 with a victor over cross town rival Mayfield thanks to a huge second half surge where Las Cruces simply came out of the locker room leading 16-13 and outscored the Trojans 20-0 in the final two quarters to make a statewide week 11 statement. The Trojans took a 7-0 lead over Las Cruces thanks to a two-yard touchdown run from Elijah Perez, Las Cruces would take a 9-7 lead after a Sam Denmark touchdown catch, missed PAT, and a 25-yard Allen Garcia field goal. The game changing play occurred in the second half when Jalen Bishop caught a 58-yard touchdown from Jonathan Joy and the icing on the cake came from a 32-yard dazzling run form J.J. Grandados late in the fourth quarter. Grandados would finish with over 100-yards rushing on the night.

Rio Rancho 35, Cleveland 0
The Rio Rancho Rams and the Cleveland storm duked it for the district championship and also for the city of vision rivalry trophy. A sense of revenge lingered in the air as last year it was the Storm who would go down to the Rams' stadium and would beat the Rams for the District title and the City of vision trophy in 2011. This time it would be the exact opposite and even though the Storm will still likely make the play-offs, this loss stings more then a all the others. The Rams were lead on the night by Sophmore quarterback Easton Bruere who had 240 yards passing a 2 touchdown (1 rushing and 1 passing TD caught by Tristan Foley). Also helping out the Ram cause was Jordan Lara a in the tackles type of runner who had 3 rushing touchdowns and around 90 yards on the ground on Friday night. The Storm were without star running back Romell Jordan and felt his absence big time on the offensive side of the ball. The Rams should get the number one seed and will have an extra week to prepare for who ever they may face in the 2012 state tournament. Rams are looking very well coached and very impressive as of late, and are poised to make it to the 2012 Stat Football Tournament.

Eldorado 32, Manzano 27
The Eldorado Eagles and the Manzano Monarchs did battle on Friday night in hopes to help solidify their case for the 2012 state football play-offs. The Eagles picked up a very crucial win and was led offensively by Zach Gentry who had 233 yards passing as well as one rushing touchdown. The Eagles will now get into the play-offs and should land up with the#12 seed, and are a scary first round match-up for whoever draws them. The Eagles finish the year 4-5 and 1-4 in districts. For Manzano they obviously wanted to go out on a high note and almost did thanks to a valiant effort from Angel Martinez and Dylan Blank. The Monarchs finish the season 6-4.

Clovis 55, Hobbs 0
The Clovis Wildcats moved to 5-5 on the season with a mercy rule win over the Hobbs Eagles Friday Night. The Wildcats are District 4-5A Champs and could argue a home field play-off game during today's NMAA Seeding Meeting. Clovis was led by Kamal Cass who ran for 271-yards on the night as he pushed past the 2,000-yard mark on the season.

La Cueva 24, Sandia 21
In a showdown of two top teir teams in 5A the District Championship was on the line for the visiting La Cueva Bears and the Hosting Sandia Matadors. The game was an absolute battle until the very end, literally. As the Bears would go on to win by 3 points following a Chris Thompson field goal from 40 yards out with 7 seconds remaining on the clock and would wind down to 3 seconds by the time the kick sailed through the uprights leaving very little hope for a Sandia comeback. A Chris Loidolt interception would seal the deal and give the Bears a hard fought win and more importantly the District Championship and a 1st round bye in the 2012 state play-offs. Leading the Bears offensively was Zach Silva who threw for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns on the night. Also helping out the Bears cause was Chris Thompson who had a monster game receiving with over 110 yards receiving and 2 receiving touchdowns, as well as kicking the game winning field goal. For Sandia the loss comes in bitter fashion and was one they could have avoided had they avoided 4 costly turnovers, yet they hung in their with a top 3 team in the state solidifying their cause as a top 5 seed and rightfully so as the Matadors are now 7-3, and 2-1 in district 2-5A arguably one of the toughest districts in the state in 2012.

Volcano Vista 38, Cibola 30
Final OTIn another Thursday Night Thriller the Volcano Vista Hawks beat City Rival Cibola in overtime after a Josh Lubhold touchdown to keep their play-off hopes alive. Volcano Vista now 5-5 this year and 1-2 in District 1-5A play is still play-off eligible, but a loss last night would of knocked them out of play-off contention. On the night Volcano Vista Hawk Quarterback Reid Hendricks threw for over 300-yards on the night and Sophomore Running Back Dominico Chavez ran for just under 100-yards with two touchdowns. Cibola was led by Derek Martinez who threw for over 300-yards and three touchdown passes. Cibola finishes the year at 1-9.

Class 4A

Farmington 21, Piedra Vista 14
The Farmington Scorpions finished third in district 1-4A with a win over now 8-2 Farmington. Wait what? That is correct with Aztec beat Farmington, Piedra Vista beating Aztec, and Farmington beating Aztec based off the 13-point District Champion Rule. The Statewide Shocker was propelled by a late Jacob Lucas to Chris Jiron touchdown pass with under a minute left to give the Scorpions their final and only lead of the game. Farmington finishes the season 7-3 while Piedra Vista drops to 8-2.

Aztec 63, Kirtland Central 0
The Aztec Tigers, now the District 1-4A back to back champs after Farmington's upset over Piedra Vista had a monster night of offense it's safe to say in their final game of the regular season. Quarterback Adam Lucero threw for over 200-yards, five touchdowns, and returned two interceptions for touchdowns on defense. Receiver Brad Hardin caught for over 100-yards on the night.

Belen 56, Grants 9
The Belen Eagles played host to Grants on Friday night and the Eagles demonstrated once again that despite having a key injury to star quarterback Nick Kurtz they are still playing with tons of heart and tons of talent. The Eagles smashed the Pirates in week eleven to go out on a positive note and reaffirm their spot in the 2012 state play-offs. On the year the Eagles have been led by Xavier Armijo who has rushed for over 1,042 yards on the season and has 15, total touchdowns. Grants who was playing a little banged up is now 5-5 are on the outside of the bubble looking in as far as making the Play-offs in 2012. However a win for Belen tonight could be huge as they may land a top four seed now that Piedra Vista has lost to Farmington in the district championship.

Los Lunas 46, Valencia 0
The Los Lunas Tigers and the Valencia Jaguars faced off on Friday night and once again the Tigers flexed their muscle and dispatched the Jaguars while holding theme scoreless. The Los Lunas Tigers at this point are playing as close to perfect as you can for the entire duration of the game and it shows. Coach Jeremy Newton is always after his boys to play a full 48 minutes of mistake free football and they are peaking in this aspect at the right time of the year. The Tigers have done what coach has been asking them all year long and the result is perfection and the District Championship title. The Los Lunas Tigers have completed the task of going undefeated in the regular season, and any other year this might result in an automatic 1st round bye, but thanks to play from their southern counterpart in the undefeated Goddard Rockets the Tigers may be looking at the # 2 seed come sunday night. Los Lunas was lead on the night by Jalen Chavez who had 193 yards rushing and Chris Wisneski who had 5 passing touchdowns.

Class 3A

Socorro 17, Albuquerque Academy 8
Socorro and Albuquerque Academy faced off on Firday night and would wage war upon each other in order to end the season on a high note. THe Socorro Warriors with the win are now 6-4 and are looking at the #5 or #6 spot in the 2012 state tournament. This loss pushes the Chargers even further away form hopes of playing in the state tournament.
