Welcome to the Jungle

Where: Tasker Arena, Hobbs, NM
Time: 7:00 PM
Grine's Pick: Eagles + 1

Eagles-Panthers Quick Hit
The Gun's N Roses song sits perfect here as both teams are coming off huge wins in their opening games. The Hobbs Eagles won in double overtime, 86-82, over Odessa (TX). Last season, at Permian the Panthers topped the Eagles, 65-42. This year however, the second under head coach Mike Smith, hopes to show major improvement. The Eagles will look to lean on Dane Pannell, the athletic off-guard, who went off for 33 points and 11 rebounds.

Why Watch This Game: I wouldn't call in the main event for no reason, grab some popcorn, shut down the town and head to Tasker Arena. The Eagles are in season two of the Mike Smith era and ranked No. 6 in New Mexico (NMPreps.com Top 25). The town should be buzzing as this could be a special team that reaches the Final Four.

Too legit, to legit to quit

ONATE KNIGHT (2-0) vs. AUSTIN (TX) (1-0)
Where: El Paso High School, El Paso, TX
Time: 6:30 PM
Grine's Pick: Knights + 3

Onate-Austin Quick Hit
Yes, I just gave some props to MCHammer. The Knights, have suddenly been the talk of the early season and they are looking more legit than at any point a season ago. Senior guards and leaders look very hungry to erase the down season from a year ago. Guard, Daemund McCants smoothly danced his way to a double-double on a career night, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds over Andress (TX) on Thursday night. The Knights will use that veteran and poised backcourt in this game once again. They have many options they could go with and they will put the ball int he hands of Rodney Anderson along with Isaac Merry to control the tempo of the game.

Why Watch This Game: The Knights are hot right now, plus I used an MCHammer reference, so get out and take a peak at what head coach and the staff are doing down in El Paso this weekend.

Will the Real Trojan Please Stand Up

Where: Montwood High School, El Paso, TX
Time: 7:00 PM
Grine's Pick: Rams +11

Trojans-Rams Quick Hit
Mayfield High School surprised us with a 55-52 win over East Lake (TX) on opening night (Tuesday, Nov. 13). Head coach Tommy Morrow has preached them as the underdog, to this very young team and rightfully so. The Trojans are not only underdogs they are underclassmen, unworthy, and right now untested. Yes, it was a great win Tuesday but as coach Morrow said, "It's a win, we just don't know how many of those we will have". So tonight we have the opportunity to see the real Trojans take the court against a good Montwood team. Look for sophomore, Daniel Munoz to continue what he did in his coming out party Tuesday night. Munoz went off for 18 points in his first varsity game.

Why Watch This Game: Coaching and a rising underclassman. Head coach Tommy Morrow continues to produce a solid program. The Trojans are a new team, with plenty of fresh faces.

Players To Watch

Dane Pannell, Hobbs High School: Pannell, is a special player and ranked in the Top-10 of the NMPreps.com Top 100 Player Rankings. Not only did he have a double-double on Tuesday but he was named a preseason Top 25 candidate for the Mr. Basketball Award. .

Daniel Munoz, Mayfield High School: Sophomore, Daniel Munoz had a solid performance in his first varsity game. Munoz poured in 18 points for the Trojans.

Adrian Sanchez, Hobbs High School: You can add Sanchez's name to the states top three point shooters as he already leads the state in them. He went off for 5-threes on Tuesday.

Coach Who Needs This Game

Mike Smith, Hobbs High School: Mike Smith has the task of not being Tasker but also being Tasker. Smith had a productive first season with the Eagles reaching the Elite Eight but the Eagles need to continue winning all season long.
