Week 12: Statewide Award Winners

Each week NMPreps.com will select Players of the Week and publish the award winners each Tuesday. Coaches and fans are urged to send in weekly top performers after Friday night's game to nmpreps@yahoo.com. This will greatly insure that we select the correct player for each award.

WEEK 12: TEAM OF THE WEEK OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Team: Mayfield Trojans The Mayfield Trojans usually play their best football in the play-offs and week 12 was no exception as the Trojans found a way to beat Manzano in a 35-28 shootout. The Trojans were led by Isaiah Lerman who had two interceptions, one of a pick six, Marcus Inglemon who ran for close to 200-yards on the night, and Kavika Johnson who scored a key late fourth quarterback touchdown. Mayfield will take on Sandia in week 13. Kamal Cass - Clovis Once again, the Clovis Class of 2014 Running Back has breached the over 300-yard mark for the Wildcats. In last weekend's 47-21 victory over Atrisco Heritage, Cass ran for 343-yards and scored five touchdowns as the Wildcats moved to 6-5 on the season. Cass has now ran for over 2,000-yards on the season.
SMALL SCHOOL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NORTHERN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jon Millar - Hope Christian The Hope Christian Huskies tolled past Taos 50-0 in the first round of the play-offs and will head to St. Michael's to take on the undefeated Horsemen this Saturday. Running Back Tommy Riley had three touchdowns as did senior two-way play Jon Millar. Millar is one of the top defensive linemen in Class 3A along with teammate Sam White. Bryson Martinez - Piedra Vista One of the top overall athletes in the State of New Mexico is no doubt Bryson Martinez out of Piedra Vista who is very close to hitting the 1,000-yard mark receiving wise this year. Against St. Pius X in a 47-3 win, Martinez caught for 90-yards, ran for 90-yards, and scored three touchdowns helping the Pius earn some redemption on the Sartans. PV takes on Los Lunas this weekend.
METRO AREA PLAYER OF THE WEEK SOUTHWEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dez Ravenel - Eldorado The Eldorado Eagles are just 5-5 this season, but managed to outscore the Cleveland Storm 21-6 in the final two quarters for a dramatic first round win over the 5A defending state champs. Dez Ravenel a senior at Eldorado blocked a punt, returned the blocked punt for a touchdown, and also caught a pass on offense which set up the go-ahead win for the Eagles. Eldorado will take on La Cueva in the quarterfinals. Richard Regalado - Deming The Deming Wildcats are now 9-2, pretty impressive for a team that everyone seemed to overlook in the pre-season. The Wildcats were led by Ismael Garrett who ran for over 100-yards, but their defensive impact player that helped pitch a 36-0 win over Roswell was Richard Regalado who had three interceptions on defense. The Wildcats will take on the Belen Eagles in a rematch of week one.
