Week 13: Players of the Week

Each week NMPreps.com will select Players of the Week and publish the award winners each Tuesday. Coaches and fans are urged to send in weekly top performers after Friday night's game to nmpreps@yahoo.com. This will greatly insure that we select the correct player for each award.

WEEK 13: TEAM OF THE WEEK OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Team: Escalante Lobos The Escalante Lobos won their first ever football state championship this past Saturday defeating the Capitan Tigers 48-30. The Escalante Lobos finished out the season 11-1 thanks to an impressive second half defensive performance allowing Capitan to score just eight points in the second half. On offense, the Lobos were led by Junior Quarterback Reynaldo Atencio who scored six touchdowns on the day. Adam Lucero - Aztec The NMPreps.com. Mr. Football Candidate led the Aztec Tigers to a thrilling 61-55 overtime win over the Artesia Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A football play-offs this past Saturday. Adam Lucero threw for 388-yards and four touchdown passes in the victory. On the season Lucero has accounted for more than 50 touchdowns.
SMALL SCHOOL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NORTHERN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Reynaldo Atencio - Escalante The Class of 2014 Prospect helped the Escalante Lobos win their first ever state football state title with a 48-30 victory over the Capitan Tigers. On the day, Atencio racked up six scoring touchdowns bring his season touchdown count over 50 total touchdowns. Atencio was the Class 1A State Title MVP for his amazing performance. Tim Valverde - Santa Rosa One of the more underrated power backs in the State of New Mexico did it again last weekend for the Santa Rosa Lions rushing for 225-yards and four touchdowns during their 53-0 win over Lordsburg. Valverde has ran for 1,211-yards this season and 19 touchdowns. The Lions will take on Hatch this weekend in the 2A semifinals.
METRO AREA PLAYER OF THE WEEK SOUTHWEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Xavier Armijo - Belen The Belen Eagles, the No. 4 seed in the Class 4A Football Play-Offs defeated the Deming Wildcats 40-6 last weekend thanks to an impressive performance from Senior Running Back Xavier Armijo who ran for over 200-yards and two touchdowns. On the season Armijo has ran for 1,351-yards and 21 touchdowns. J.J. Granados - Las Cruces The Las Cruces Bulldawgs defeated the Clovis Wildcats in the Class 5A Quarterfinals wining 70-40, yes the two teams combined for over 100 points on the night. For an even more bizarre stat, Las Cruces Running Back J.J. Granados scored eight, yes eight touchdowns on the night. Las Cruces will travel to face Eldorado in the Class 5A Semifinals in week fourteen.
SOUTHEAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK Video of the Week: Escalante over Capitan
Shay Harrison - Texico Harrison and the Wolverines battled past Dexter to defeat the Demons 28-14 in the quarterfinals. On the night, Harrison did work rushing for 302-yards and two touchdowns in the win. On the season Harrison has ran for 2,039-yards and has more than 20 touchdowns. The Wolverines will host the Tularosa Wildcats Friday Night in the 2A Semifinals.
