Week Four: Tuesday Night Brawls

GAME OF THE NIGHT

No. 4 Valley Vikings (1-0) vs. No. 7 Cibola Cougars (1-0)
Where: Cibola High School
Time: 7:00PM
Preview: No. 4 Valley (1-0) comes into the game after a close win last week over Rio Rancho. Valley added transfer Adonis Saltes over the summer to an already crowded backcourt with several Top-100 players. This backcourt is dominate and could play a huge factor in this game.

Text Scores: (505) 414-4313
No. 7 Cibola Cougars (1-0) looked completely on key last week in their huge win over La Cueva. The Cougars are different than Valley and they are led by their front court. Big man Ross Buchman dropped 25 points and 12 rebounds last week and should be able to do work once again against a smaller Vikings team.

Backcourt: Valley
Frontcourt: Cibola
Balance: Cibola
Depth: Valley
Game Changer: Cibola bigs; Buchman in the paint, and Taylor Barney.
Grine's Pick: Cibola +3
TOP-10 MATCH

No. 5 Volcano Vista Hawks (1-0) vs. No. 8 La Cueva Bears (0-1)
Where: La Cueva High School
Time: 7:00 PM
Preview: No. 5 Volcano Vista (1-0) avoided an early season minor upset, squeaking by Rio Grande by four. The Hawks still without key players Sam Haywood and Kendall Johnson. Johnson is coming off a successful football season while it is undisclosed on Haywood's status for tonights game.

The No. 8 La Cueva Bears (0-1) fell in week three of the season and will look to redeem themselves this week. Guard, Bryce Alford poured in 46 points last week and will look to dominate the backcourt especially if the Hawks are without Johnson and Haywood again tonight.

Backcourt: La Cueva
Frontcourt: La Cueva
Balance: Volcano Vista
Depth: Volcano Vista
Game Changer: Bryce Alford, I mean the guy can flat out score and take over a game. If Haywood and Johnson are out tonight it's all him.
Grine's Pick: Bears +5

AVOID THE UPSET TUESDAY NIGHT

No. 12 Sandia Matadors (0-1) vs. Abq. Academy Chargers (2-0)
Where: Albuquerque Academy School
Time: Tuesday, 7:00 PM
Preview: No. 12 Sandia Matadors (1-0) fought back last week and nearly upset the Albuquerque High Bulldogs. The Matadors led by dominate forward Tim Brennan will look to focus on him again this week. The Matadors surprisingly sat Ryan Ashbaugh most of the game and if they do so again it could hurt them again.

The Albuquerque Academy Chargers (2-0) are one of the scariest teams right now for any opponent. Led by several key players from Chris Martin or Tommy Lindgren they have already upset one, then, Top-25 team in Gallup last week. The Chargers are playing extremely well and are thinking Top-25 for the first time in three years.

Backcourt: Sandia
Frontcourt: Academy
Balance: Academy
Depth: Sandia
Game Changer: Tim Brennan. Though I say Academy has the overall better frontcourt, Brennan is the best forward on the court.
Grine's Pick: Sandia + 4

THURSDAY NIGHT BUBBLE BUSTER GAME

No. 21 Cleveland Storm (2-2) vs. Onate Knights (3-2)
Where: Cleveland High School
Time: Tuesday, 7:00 PM
Preview: No. 21 Cleveland Storm (2-2) have started the season at .500 and return to New Mexico this week after finishing fourth place at the Frenship (TX) Tournament. Guard Kaydon Sneed has slowly started to rise on the radar with a couple key games.

The Onate Knights (3-2) started the season with a bang with a couple huge wins. Led by Daemund McCants the Knights are earning votes for the Top-25 and looking to get that first win over a Top-25 team. This game could eventually play a huge role win seeding takes place.

Backcourt: Onate
Frontcourt: Cleveland
Balance: Onate
Depth: Cleveland
Game Changer: Knights backcourt. They play a very conservative and have a very good half-court defense.
Grine's Pick: Onate +1.1

Other Games Taking Place

No. 19 Los Lunas Tigers (0-1) vs. Bernalillo Spartans (2-0)
Preview: The Spartans come in hot right after a successful start to the season and will look to upset the Tigers who suffered a loss last week. This will be one of the most entertaining games of the young season. The Spartans backcourt is very good and could hurt that the Tigers are still without guard Chris Sanchez.
Grine's Pick: Upset, Spartans by +3

No. 15 Capital Jaguars (2-0) vs. No. 25 Manzano Monarchs (0-1)
Preview: No. 25 Manzano was the storyline last week for the wrong reasons, losing to unranked Moriarty becoming the biggest upset of the young season. Capital could send the Monarchs to a (0-2) start with the way they have been playing. They have the edge in this one and starting to look like a contending team.
Grine's Pick: Jaguars +4

No. 23 Alamogordo Tigers (1-0) vs. Chaparral Lobos (3-1)
Preview: The Lobos are off to a surprising start this season at (3-1) they will look to get an upset win on their resume. The Tigers won't be easy to upset though as they are looking like the Mike Day teams during his first stint. Guard Tyler Day is new to the scene but already making waves with the Tigers faithful after a great opening game.
Grine's Pick: Tigers +5
