Girls: Four Weeks Down

Four weeks has come and gone with some teams looking to pull ahead of the pack. Others still working the kinks out. Plus we take a look at some players who have really caught our eye.

Southern Pride: Ranked 1, 2, & 3

1. Clovis Lady Wildcats (4-0): The No. 1 Clovis Wildcats are 4-0 after winning the Gallup Invitational in week three.

2. Hobbs Lady Eagles (4-0): The No. 2 team in the state is looking to make good on a title contending run. They had a scare against Roswell last week though.

3. Mayfield Lady Trojans (5-0): Could be underrated at No. 3 spot, proving that they are going to be extremely tough this year. We already know that they are coached by one of the best on the ladies side.

Dark Horses To Watch Out For

1. Eldorado Lady Eagles (2-0): Given no respect this preseason the Lady Eagles ranked No. 8 this week in the Top-25 could be looking at the Elite Eight or more this post season.

2. Alamogordo Lady Tigers (5-1): The No. 11 Lady Tigers have quickly transformed the past two seasons and they are not only thinking State Tournament bid but maybe a pair of games in March.

3. Las Cruces Lady Bulldawgs (2-0): Unranked this preseason the No. 24 Lady Bulldawgs could be a team people are talking about when looking at contenders over pretenders.

Players Making a Name, Miss Basketball name?

1. Kassandra Harris, Cibola: The Lady Cougars are (3-0) are currently ranked No. 5 in the NMPreps.com Top-25 Rankings. Harris has a double-double on her resume with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

2. Mariah Forde, Belen: The Lady Eagles are unranked right now but Forde is keeping them alive averaging over 20 points per game and rising on the charts.

3. Sydney Mares, Grants: The point guard signed to play at the next level already and she is making the Lady Pirates a force in 4A. Averaging around 20 points too, Mares could be one of the Top point guards.

4. Daeshianna McCants, Mayfield: One of the best players in the state, McCants is an early candidate for the Miss Basketball Award when the weekly candidates race is released. Huge numbers every night.

5. Madigan Gonzales, Ruidoso: Averaging a double-double Gonzales could be one of 3A's best kept secrets. If she keeps showing these numbers could rise in the ranks.

6. Amy Horner, Artesia: Horner was a beast last post season and she continues that double-double mind frame this season. She could have them thinking Final Four for the Orange.

7. Sydney Graham, Highland: Proving nice numbers this season the point guard for the Lady Hornets has been playing extremely well. Averaging around 7 assists a game and she could become a favorite for the Award.

8. Stephanie Anderson, Alamogordo: Some of the most consistent numbers and balance is Anderson who is averaging around 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists per contest.

3A Fight Once Again

No. 7 Santa Fe Indian v. No. 10 Hope Christian: Both 3A teams were the 1 and 2 seed last season and once again look like dominating forces. This could become instant classics when they meet in District 5-3A.
