Girls: Roswell Takes Title

Friday night was another action packed night of basketball games around New Mexico. NMPreps.com brings you several highlights from Friday night action. Also, this week could shake up the Top-25 rankings for week eight with the No. 1 team in the state losing on Friday night.

    No. 2 Hobbs 38, No. 1 Mayfield 37 (OT): In Las Cruces, the battle between the two top teams in the state took place for a round two showing. This time the Hobbs Lady Eagles came out with the win in overtime.

    Roswell 32, Portales 31: In a close battle all night long the unranked Roswell Lady Coyotes made believers on Friday night as they held on to win the Championship of the Goddard Holiday Tournament. Myla Brown led the Lady Coyotes and was named the tournament MVP.

    Goddard 74, Ruidoso 63: The Lady Rockets took the third place trophy of their Holiday Classic. The Lady Rockets were led by All Tournament team player Abbie Blach who finished with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Alexandria Zumbrun finished with 16 points for the Lady Rockets. Ruidoso was led by guard Lyndsey Saenz who had a game high 25 points.

    No. 3 Clovis 57, Texico 12: The Lady Wildcats dominated on friday proving why they are the number three team in the state of New Mexico.

    No. 9 Gallup 56, Caprock (TX) 47: The Lady Bengals moved to 9-1 on the season defeating Caprock (TX) in an impressive victory. The Lady Bengals continue to climb the charts with big wins.

    Albuquerque Academy 43, Laguna Acoma 34 : Albuquerque Academy took on the Laguna Acoma Hawks on Friday night at eh Santa Ana Star Center where the lady Chargers would pick up a much needed win as they improve to 2-7 on the year. The loss drops Laguna to 9-3 on the year despite a great performance from Randi Romero who had a game high 20 points. Leading the way for the Chargers was Ali Stratton who scores 14 points.

    Las Cruces 60, Onate 39: The Las Cruces Bulldawgs Faced off against the Onate Knights on Friday night and it was Las Cruces who would get the win in decisive fashion as they remain undefeated at 11-0 on the season. Leading the way for the Knights was Kelsee Rosales who scored a game high 16 points for the Knights who are now 6-6 following the loss. For Las Cruces the tone was set offensively by Alyssa Abney who had 11 poitns but spearheaded a balanced attack on the night.

    Espanola Valley 61, Taos 51 The Epsanola Lady Sundevils faced off against the Taos Lady Tigers on Friday evening as the Espanola Lady Sundevils would come away with the win and improve to 10-3 on the season following a great performance from Lauren Quintana who had a game high 23 points.

    St. Michael's 32, Moriarty 17 : The Lady Horsemen took on the Lady Pintos on Friday in Santa Fe at the Lady Horsemen Invitational as the two teams would duke it out but it was the 6-9 Lady Horsemen who would come away with the win. Leading the way for the Lady Horsemen was Elozabeth Serrano and arianna Lovato who scored 9 points each for the Lady Horseman.
