Week Eight is here and we have a new number one team in the land of enchantment. The big marquee game though is a few spots down between two teams in the top 10.

Highlights: Prep upsets No. 23 Tigers

(Josh Henderson, NMPreps.com Basketball & Football Staff member brings you the highlights)

Sandia Prep 54, No. 23 Los Lunas 52: The Sandia Prep Sundevils took on the Los Lunas Tigers on Friday night as the Tigers would play host to the Sundevils in a great matchup to help bring in the new year with some solid boys basketball. The game would feature a first half that was somewhat controlled by the Sundevils as they would hold a 25-21 lead at the midway point. However the Los Lunas Tigers would prove they have some fight left in them as they would battle back to make it a close game down the stretch, a missed shot in the final seconds by the Tigers own Chris Sanchez would find the back of the rim and the Sundevils would sink a pair of free throws to ice the game. Leading the way for the Sundevils was Zach Tenorio who had 15 points and Tyler Dorner who had 10 and 6 rebounds, also helping out the Sundevils cause was Jonny Duran who had 12 points and 4 assists.

Grine Lessons Learned

1. Top-25 Suffers On Friday: Fifty percent of the Top-25 ranked teams in New Mexico fell on Friday night. Gallup High School has been the silent killer as of late taking down a pair of Top-25 this season.

2. No. 7 Coyotes are the real deal: Yes, they are ranked in the Top-10 but in 4A hoops this season, so far, it's the Coyotes then the rest of 4A. I like the Coyotes more and more each week.

3. Farmington turning a page folks: The Scorpions started the season rough at 0-4 but have been able to sneak some wins as of late. They could find themselves getting some more love in 4A Bracket Watch (Every other Thursday feature).
