Week Twelve: The season continues to bring surprises and Friday night could be another night of shocking wins.

Grine: Lessons Learned

1. TWO of the greatest?: Debate It Here. Yesterday and a majority of the week we have had our eyes on Bryce Alford as he climbs the all-time scoring record in New Mexico. Yet we forget about the 2012 NMPreps.com Mr. Basketball Cullen Neal, who has also jumped into the top-10 all-time scoring list. One thing for sure it has been great to cover these two the last three seasons. In all honesty they will go down as two of the best players and represent New Mexico well at the next level.

No. 24 Cibola 73

2. District 1-4A Underway: This District has the high chances of sending one team dancing come March. One thing that's for sure two teams are fighting for it while the other two are not. Farmington (10-11, 1-0) has been playing well lately and beat the 2012 DC Kirtland Central 61-38 last night. Piedra Vista (11-10, 1-0) the 2011 DC is looking to challenge them after beating Aztec 94-78.

3. We haven't forgotten about No. 2: The Sandia Matadors won a big game on Saturday night over No. 13 Volcano Vista, 54-39. It will be interesting to see how well they do this coming week with Districts starting. One thing we learned is they are ready for the challenge.

Prime Time Player: Cullen Neal

Anytime you jump into the all-time for any stat you are and will be remembered. Neal is number ten on the list at 2,021 points. He will square off with Bryce Alford this week in a battle of the scoring leaders.

Starting Five:

  • Tim Brennan, Sandia: 20 points.
  • Brandon Altamirano, St. Pius X: 16 points
Nominate: Week 12 Player of the Week.

    Saturday Sprints

1-3A: Bloomfield 57, Wingate 41. The Bobcats who were preseason favorites to challenge in the District have placed themselves back in the running after an up and down season. The Wingate win is big for the Bobcats.

Too Close: Texico 49, Tucumcari 48. When it comes down to seeding 2A basketball it could get interesting and this game was a huge "seeding-game".

Battle in 4A: No. 6 St. Pius X 72, Capital 67 (OT). Two teams that will battle for the Final Four in March had the chance to square off. The Sartans win a close one as the Jaguars fall in a close battle for the second time this week.
