    Grine Lesson Learned

    1. Atrisco Heritage is hurting: The fast paced Jaguars that I seen earlier in the season in a win over Cibola did not look like the aggressor in the loss Friday night to West Mesa. The Jaguars slowed the ball down and didn't attack offensively or defensively like they had been.

    2. West Mesa is the example of unknown: It was the first time that I got to see the Mustangs in person. From the film that I have seen on them this team doesn't boast with Top 150 Players but they have 6 or 7 role players that each contribute at different times throughout the game. Odd team but very well coached - I think depending on the match-up they could be a favorite to upset someone.

    3. More seeding issues that I need to look at: Carlsbad beats Las Cruces - what's going on with LC - and then Volcano Vista forces a tie with Cibola for the regular season District 1-5A championship. This could shake up the way the bracket once again.

    Prime Time Player: Mahlik Sims

The senior guard for the Albuquerque High Bulldogs finished with 33-points and 6-assists in a District 5-5A win on Friday night. Sims continues to prove himself as a Top-10 player in New Mexico.

    More Top Performances
  • Gentry Doolittle, Texico: 22 points (6-3's)
  • Eric Gutierrez, West Mesa: Big game several big shots.

    Nominate: Players of the Week.

    Friday Sprints

Upset: No. 11 Carlsbad 57, No. 8 Las Cruces 54. The Cavemen continue to surprise this season and beat the District 3-5A regular season champs Las Cruces. The Cavemen helps out the 4-5A District members and their potential seeds.

Buzzer Beater: No. 25 Alamogordo 42, Gadsden 40. Senior guard Tyler Day saved the day and possibly the season for the Tigers with a buzzer beating three pointer to beat the Gadsden Panthers. The Tigers won the District 3-5A runner-up with the win as well.

Bubble IN: Moriarty 54, Del Norte 51. The Pintos likely clinched a tournament spot last week but this win secures them a spot in the state tournament for the first time since 1983.

Last Bubble Shot: Onate 43, Mayfield 40. The Onate Knights led by Daemund McCants (14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists) to a win and the last hope of making a bid to the State Tournament. The Knights finished as third place in District 3-5A.
