Team Preview: Estancia Bears

The Estancia Bears lost their last four out of five games after starting out the season 3-2. It was a learning experience you could say, especially during district under first year Head Coach Stewart Burnett who is only 25 years old entering the 2013 season. Team Preview: Grants Pirates

During the 2012 season, the Grants Pirates went 5-5 on the season, 4-4 against teams from 4A, and were 2-3 against district competition. They scored 22.4 points per game and allowed 29.4 points per game on defense, pretty much an average season that led to a non-play-off appearance. Complete Team Preview Here

Team Preview: Santa Fe Demons

Last year, the Santa Fe Demons reached the play-offs for the first time since the 1987 season. Big year for the program under 5th year Head Coach Ray Holladay. The Demons were 6-6 in 2012 and won the District 2-4A Championship going 4-0 before losing to Aztec in the first 4A first round play-offs. Complete Team Preview Here

Video: Wildcat's Can Sling it

Clovis would eventually win the NMMI 7-On-7 Tournament Championship defeating Hobbs in the finals. Running Back Kamal Cass is nursing a light ankle injury so he was playing center on the day helping fire up his teammates from under center. Video Linked Here

Video: Carlsbad Air's It Out

Staying in District 4-5A the Carlsbad Cavemen brought a solid group to the event. 6-foot-4, 215 pound Quarterback Rodney Holcomb and Junior Quarterback Kaleb Stevens split time for the most part of the day each getting quality reps. When Holcomb is on, he is one of the best if not the best quarterback in New Mexico. Stevens is going to be a solid number two, one that can come off the bench and make big plays, he is a winner. Team Preview: Valencia Jaguars

During the 2011 season Valencia won an all-time high 11 games on the season nearly going to the finals losing to Aztec 47-41 in the 4A semifinals. 6-foot-4, 285 pound Dakota Montoya out of Clayton (N.M.) is one of the top two-way offensive and defensive linemen in New Mexico you've probably never heard of. Team Preview: Atrisco Heritage Jaguars

Their first year in Class 5A ws a major success with the Jaguars going 8-3 under first year Head Coach Patrick Johnson. They lose their quarterback Nate Goode, but return some quality defensive players along with game breaker Ricci Alvidrez. Atrisco Heritage Complete Team Preview Linked Here

The Goddard Rocket Dynasty

Today, we highlight the Goddard Rocket Football Program which has reached the 4A State Title six times over the last seven seasons and the Coaching Career of Goddard Living Legend Sam Jernigan. Goddard Rocket Head Football Coach Sam Jernigan also known as a New Mexico Prep Football Living Legend took over at Goddard following Jim Hite during the 1990 season. Kameron Miller finally takes over at quarterback

This year's starter will be Kameron Miller a 6-foot-0, 170 pound sophomore who is the son of Las Cruces High School Head Football Coach Jim Miller. Miller will finally hand the reins as quarterback over to his son Kameron and it has been a long time coming for the Bulldawg Family. Kameron Miller finally takes over at quarterback

Nate Winrow Leads Alamogordo Defense

Three year starter Nate Winrow, who by the way is one of the state's top baseball players. Will be a three year starter at safety for Alamogordo come the start of the 2013 season. We caught up with Winrow and Coach Dale Hooper in Alamogordo. Feature on Winrow Linked Here

Broken Femur Doesn't Stop Daniel Conklin

Daniel Conklin, a senior running back at Centennial broke his femur bone late in the season last year against Hot Springs. After surgery, doctors told him that he would never play again. He has been cleared by doctors almost nine months later and with tons of heart and off-season rehab, Conklin will start for the Hawks again this coming fall. Video Feature Linked Here

Team Report: Las Cruces Bulldawgs

The Las Cruces Bulldawgs are the Class 5A defending State Champions and while they do lose some remarkable talent form the 2012 season, the well is clearly not dry. They return eight players on the defensive side of the football including 6-foot-0, 223 pound linebacker Sam Denmark who has an offer from New Mexico State. Team Preview: Alamogordo Tigers
The New Head Football Coach for the Alamogordo Tigers is Dale Hooper, the former Head Coach at Grants over the last five seasons. Hooper takes over a program that can win no doubt. Just a few years ago, Alamogordo was playing the Mayfield Trojans in the Class 5A Title Game. Bruce Dollar and Tommy Standefer gave big efforts to take this program to new heights... Team Report: Onate Knights

The Onate Knights went 3-7 and went 0-4 in District 3-5A play during the 2012 season. This year's group returns six on offense and two on defense which could be a good thing considering Onate allowed 33.8 points per game last year against opponents. Team Preview: Deming Wildcats
The Deming Wildcats return a great amount of talent for the upcoming 2013 football season. While they are the team to beat in District 3-4A having won the last two district championships, this program is working towards building that next level of success. Team Preview: Santa Teresa Warriors
Last season Santa Teresa was 3-7, in fact they opened up the year 1-6 before district play even started. A key 34-7 win over Centennial, a near upset 21-14 loss to Deming, and a 49-16 win over Chaparral did not leave a bad taste in their mouth, rather showed these incoming seniors that it takes a constant commitment to have continued winning seasons. David Aldama among State's top 4A linemen
At 5-foot-9 and 285 pounds David Aldama out of Santa Teresa High School is one of the best, if not the best offensive linemen returning from the Class of 2014. If he was 6-foot-4, 285 pounds he would likely be headed to New Mexico State or UTEP, he is that good. Strong grades in the classroom, fantastic social skills... Feature on David Aldama Linked Here
Queving Redding helps build Hawk's program
He is a three year starter at quarterback. He knows the system and understands the importance of being a senior at Centennial High School. Queving Redding out of the Class of 2014 will be among Centennial's first graduating Class next spring. A dual threat quarterback that can make plays both through the air and on the ground... Leadership role belongs to Joah Franzoy
A few names we remember: Chris Hutchinson, Yanni Sueter, Axten Franzoy, and this season Joah Franzoy takes on the leadership role for the Trojans. Franzoy is a three year starter at linebacker and Head Mayfield Football Coach Michael Bradley expects him to rise to the occasion in 2013. Feature on Franzoy and Leadership

The Mayfield Trojan's weight room/field house is covered in life mottos like "Champions Never Quit", "Attentiveness", etc. and with strong senior leadership comes on the field success, but more importantly comes success later in life when high school athletes hang up their cleats and become husbands and fathers. Kavika Johnson read to lead Trojans
Standing 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Kavika Johnson out of Mayfield High School from the Class of 2015 is another quarterback to watch on the recruiting circuit. Team Preview: Del Norte Preview
Low light in the weight room, no music, just echoes of weights hitting the floor. Del Norte has won just 19 games over the last six years and under first year Head Coach Bruce Binkley during the 2012 season they went 2-8, so really there is nothing to brag or boast about. Eastern New Mexico Mini Camp Report
The Eastern New Mexico Football Coaching Staff held a one-day Junior/Senior Camp at Cleveland High School on Tuesday, June 18th. Over 40 athletes from various high schools attended the event. Team Preview: Cleveland Storm
It's amazing to think that this program just started playing varsity football during the 2009 season and already, they are a yearly contender for the 5A State Championship. During the 2011 season, the Storm went 13-0 under Kirk Potter winning the Class 5A State Championship led by now current New Mexico Lobo Quarterback Cole Gautsche who also won the NMPreps.com Mr. Football Award that same season. Team Preview: La Cueva Bears
The La Cueva Bears are the only Albuquerque Metro Area Program to have won a State Football Championship since the 2000 season. In fact the Bears did it three times in 2003, 2004, and in 2009 all under former Head Coach Fred Romero. When Romero left and was replaced by Ed Lucero, the Bears continued their winning ways going 8-4 in 2011 and 9-2 during the 2012 season. La Cueva Team Preview Linked Here
Team Preview: Valley Vikings
The Valley Vikings were 2-8 during the 2011 season, Enrico Marcelli took over for long time Valley Head Football Coach Vince Collins and turned the program around as the Vikings posted their best record over the last six years going 7-4 on the season. In fact the Vikings were just 10 points away from being 10-1 last year, losing by one point to La Cueva, losing by seven to Eldorado, and losing to Volcano Vista by two in the play-offs. I'll be at Valley High School next Monday, June 17th for the continuation of my prep football summer tour, but I watching Quarterback Bo Coleman and Aaron Molina work the field Wednesday Night during a 7-On against Eldorado a combination feature was a must. Video Highlights Linked Here
Team Preview: Los Lunas Tigers
The story line for the 2013 season is pretty straight forward. Can 1st Year Head Coach Duane Toliver keep the program rolling? With 15 returning starters from a team that went 12-1 during the 2012 season, the expectations are extremely high for the Tigers who have won a total of 30 games over the last three seasons. Team Preview: Volcano Vista Hawks
We've been waiting for Volcano Vista to have their "breakout season" at the 5A level and it finally happened during the 2012 season when Volcano Vista reached the 2012 5A Semifinals. Team Preview: Manzano Monarchs
The Manzano Monarchs enter the 2013 season riding a four game losing streak that dates back to their first round play-off loss against Mayfield losing 35-28. Now in his second year as Head Coach of the Manzano Monarchs Chad Adcox does not seem flustered or if his back is against the wall, rather he is very confident on keeping the Manzano Football Program among not just the Elite in Albuquerque, but among the Elite in New Mexico. The 2012 Football Season is tough to forget for Sandia Matador Football Fans alike. They were just a touchdown away from winning their first big school football state championship since the 70's. Team Preview: Eldorado Eagles
The Eldorado Eagles went 6-6 during the 2012 season losing to Las Cruces 55-28 in the 5A Semifinals. The Eagles started the season 3-1, but midseason losses against Rio Rancho, Volcano Vista, La Cueva, and Sandia nearly knocked the Eagles out of the play-offs, until their 32-27 victory over Manzano in a pivotal must win district game.
