Goddard Team Preview Farmington Team Preview
Goddard has been in the State Title Game 6 times since 2005, winning the 2008, 2009, and 2012 state championships. Since the 1991 season the Rockets have reached the state title game 14 times, winning 6 titles. This year their program is headlined by NMPreps.com Mr. Football Candidate Cody French who has rushed for over 1,500-yards this year and racked up more than 20 touchdowns, but French is not all they have, let's be clear on that. Their offensive line is anchored by Thomas Perea, Justin Martinez, Eathyn Giffin, each who have carried the Goddard torch of excellent linemen. Cameron Neff has stepped up at quarterback this year and we've seen Kelsey Cunningham pretty much do it all this year. The Boy's In Blue are the clear favorite this weekend against Farmington that has a lot to do with their Coaching Staff. Farmington runs multiple sets on offense and while they are scoring 32 points per game on offense, their defense has been the main reason they continue to win this year. They have allowed just 7.25 points per game and forced three shutouts this year. They have some great running backs in the backfield starting with Brian Farley who has rushed for over 1,000-yards, Austin Foutz who can make the big play, and at Quarterback is Jacob Lucas who is a two year starter. On defense, Farley leads the team in tackles with over 120 on the season and also watch for Kyle Reynolds and Xander Walker in the secondary. Reynolds is known for coming up with the big play on defense all season long. Up front, their best offensive linemen is Logan Welling.
Goddard Head Coach: Sam Jernigan Farmington Head Coach: Gary Bradley
Goddard Rocket Head Football Coach Sam Jernigan also known as a New Mexico Prep Football Living Legend took over at Goddard following Jim Hite during the 1990 season. Since the 1991 season, the Rockets have won six state championships and produced some of New Mexico's Top High School Players ever. Hard nose programs, great second half adjustments, etc. That is why the staff at NMPreps.com recently nominated him for the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame. More info on that to come. Farmington was 3-7 in 2007 under Head Coach Randy Jackson, Gary Bradley the former Offensive Coordinator at Mayfield took over during 2008 and after a 2-8 season, the Scorpions have climbed to the top. In 2009 they went 7-5, in 2010 they went 9-3, in 2011 they went 10-3, last year they went 7-5, and this year they are 11-1. It's taken time to build up this football program in a baseball city, but Gary Bradley has followed his father and brother's leading teams to the State Title Game.
Goddard Impact Player: Cody French Farmington Impact Player: Brian Farley
Has accounted for over 2,000 all purpose yards this year with more than 25 touchdowns. Has rushed for over 1,100-yards and has over 120 tackles on defense.
