Week 7: Saturday Night Recap

Today we recap the Saturday High School Basketball Games from across the State of New Mexico.

Boys | Scoreboard

Hobbs 70, EP Harmony & Science 62
The Hobbs Eagles rebounded from their Friday Night loss against Las Cruces to beat a very good team out of El Paso in Harmony and Science who is now 18-3 on the season. The Eagles were led by Meridyth who had 14 points and Devante Brown who had 13 pounds.

Las Cruces 61, Clovis 51
The defending 5A state champs are starting to step up as they handed Clovis another loss last night. Malik Woods led the way for the Bulldawgs with 15 points. Anthony Collins and Cody Murillo added 12 each. Willie McCray had 17 for the Wildcats. Clovis is now 6-5 on the season while Las Cruces goes 5-5.

Laguna Acoma 69, Red Mesa (AZ) 51
The Hawks remain undefeated as they beat their Arizona opponent last night. With the win, Laguna Acoma advances to an 11-0 record.

Clayton 57, Logan 49
The Clayton Yellowjackets won the 2014 Orange and Black Classic defeating the Logan Longhorns by 8 Saturday night. Koy Geary had 20 points and Mark Craine had 16 on the night.

Los Lunas 64, Sandia Prep 46
In a gym filled with tiger blue, Los Lunas defeated the home team by 18 last night. Big man Dustin Gaddis dropped 17 for the Sundevils, but it was not enough to win. Jacob Holland continues to rack in big numbers as he scored 22 in last night's match up followed by Chad Murphy's 15. The Sundevils drop to 5-5 on the season, while Los Lunas advances to 7-3.

Penasco 60, McCurdy 48
Penasco picked up a big win Saturday Night defeating McCurdy to win the NRG Championship Game.

Carlsbad 58, Onate 38
The Caveman started off the new year with a bang as they defeated their visitors by 20 last night. The Cavemen are now 6-4 and face the undefeated Roswell squad on Tuesday.

Santa Fe Prep 65, Tularosa 33
The Griffins gave their fans a show last night as Francis Castillo y Mullert dropped 17 points on the visiting Wildcats. DJ Casados added 15 and Ian Anderson and William Lenfestey added 10 each. The Griffins remain undefeated at home as they advance to an 8-4 record. Tularosa is now 6-3 on the season.

Bosque 44, Tucumcari 43
The traveling Bobcats beat the home team by 1 last night with the help of Gabe Chavez who had 19. With 20 big rebounds, Chavez brought in the double double. Both teams are now 3-7.

Fort Sumner 73, Loving 72
Four players were in double digits last night, including leading scorer Talon Crist who had 25. Others included Hunter Sparks, 16, Nik Sanchez, 11, and Gage Maxwell, 10. Joel Hernandez led the way for Loving with 22. Fort Sumner advances to 6-5 while Loving falls to 2-4.

Logan 54, Raton 50
Logan defeated Raton by 4 yesterday with the help of leading scorer Shana Sorrels who had 14. Sophomore Kippi Webb was the only other player in double digits for Logan as she brought in 13. Webb also had 10 rebounds. Raton and Logan are now 8-2 and 7-2 respectively.

Espanola Valley 37, Miyamura 36
The Sundevils won the Aztec Rumble in the Jungle Saturday night thanks to tournament MVP Ashlyn Trujillo who scored 61 points in three games.

Hope 65 Pojoaque 29
The Huskies hosted the Elkettes last night as they came away with the 36 point win. With the win, Hope remains a perfect 8-0, while Pojoaque is now 7-6.

Tularosa 51, Magdalena 43
The Lady Cats traveled to Magdalena last night where they stole an 8 point win from the home team. Kyanne Kowatch led the way with 17 points and Avianna Garcia added 10. Tularosa advances to 8-2 while Magdalena is 6-3.

Carlsbad 48, Onate 32
The Cavegirls extended their winning streak last night with the help of leading scorer Shalie McAlister who had 12. Shelby Welch added 10.

Las Cruces 78, Cleveland 42
The lady Bulldawgs traveled to Albuquerque where they blew their hosts out of the water. Darian Cabrales had 25 on the day to lead Cruces. Alyssa Abney and Megan Guadian added 14 each while Graizon Alaniz added 10. Las Cruces advances to 8-3 on the season.
