Henderson: 5 Out In Front (Girls Edition)

Today we take a look at which teams are out in front during the Month of January. Can anyone match up with the Clovis Lady Wildcats? Is Santa Fe really the No. 1 in Class 4A? Shiprock is straight rolling, in Class 2A Tularosa is peaking at the right time, and in 1A Tatum is still unbeaten. Subscribe to NMPreps.com now, a perfect time to catch the tail end of the basketball season.

Henderson: 5 out in front
clovis lady wildcats
Buzz: The Lady Wildcats are 18-0 after a 89-67 win over Trinity Christian, where Junior Guard Danni Williams pored in 42 points. Williams is the headliner of this team being one of the top recruited prospects in the Country holding more than 35 D-1 Offers. Shelby Jones is another D-1 prospect having picked up her first offer from Navy recently. On the year the Lady Wildcats have marquee wins of plenty. They beat 4A power St. Pius X by 12, beat Hobbs by 7, beat Canyon, Texas by 5, beat Sandia 63-9 and then beat Lovington one night later 76-25. This team is primed for a state title run.
santa fe demonetts
Buzz: The Demonetts are 17-1 this season under Head Coach Elmer Chavez after a 50-37 win over District Rival Los Alamos in week 10. Santa Fe's only loss dates back to December 3rd when they lost to Volcano Vista by 30 points. Since then, Santa Fe has really turned it up with big wins over Espanola, St. Mike's, Piedra Vista, Belen, and Espanola again on January 21st. Their roster is very deep with Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage and Jackie Martinez leading the way.
shiprock lady Chieftains
Buzz: The Lady Chieftains are No. 1 in Class 3A for good reason besides a unblemished record of 19-0. Last week they took on a very good Hope Christian team at Hope and Shiprock won by 16. One night before they beat Hope on their home court they beat a loaded Los Lunas group by 2. They beat Gallup earlier in the season by 2 and have beaten Kirtland Central 4 different times this year already. One of the best duo's in the State of New Mexico is Taylor Henderson and Ashley John.
Tularosa lady wildcats
Buzz: With Mora's week 10 loss to a very good Clayton team, there has to be a new No. 1 heading into week 11. The Tularosa Lady Wildcats fit that No. 1 ranking mold with a 12-4 season record heading into the district stretch for the season. Their four losses aren't terrible losses, losing to St. Mike's, Cliff, Goddard, and to Portales on the 11th of January. Rising Junior Kyanne Kowatch is having an outstanding season scoring more than 15.0 per game.
tatum lady coyotes
Buzz: These ladies are 16-0 under Head Coach Greg Slover. They are coming off wins over Hagerman and Loving, winning those games by 38 and 22 respectively. This year's roster has just 5 seniors on-board, yet each week they continue to get good play from their entire roster. Watch for Abby Medlin who can light up the scoreboard on any given night.
