Week 13: Friday Night Recap

Today we recap the Week 13 Friday Night Games from across the State of New Mexico.

Friday Night Recap

Valley 71, West Mesa 55
The Vikings stay on top after a win over West Mesa. Joe Anaya led the way with 15 points. Adonis Saltes and Bo Coleman each added 13. Valley advances to 20-2.

Atrisco Heritage 97, Albuquerque 96
The Jaguars squeeze by with a double overtime win against the Bulldogs. Joe Brooks had a record 44 points. Atrisco is now 18-4.

Volcano Vista 64, Rio Rancho 52
The Hawks are now tied for first in their district after a 12 point win over the Rams. Johnny Arias had 15 and Lorenzo Vigil had 12. Volcano advances to 15-7.

Mayfield 58, La Cruces 54
The Trojans defeated in town rival and former 5A state champ, the bulldawgs by 4. Kavika Johnson led with 14 points. Malik Woods led Las Cruces with 16. Mayfield moved into a first place tie with Gadsden in district.

Roswell 78, Clovis 62
The Coyotes handed the Wildcats their 3rd straight loss last night. Clovis star Willie McCray led all scorers with 20, but it wasn't enough. Daniel Amador had 19, Cesar Nava added 18 and Marquel Warner had 14 points on 10 rebounds. Roswell advances to 22-1.

Texico 56, Clayton 54
With a three pointer made with 3 seconds left on the clock, Texico defeated Clayton by 2. Gentry Doolittle led the way with 14, followed by Brannon Karger with 12. Texico is now 21-2 while Clayton is 19-3.

Clovis 64, Roswell 50
The Lady Wildcats remain perfect after a win over Roswell. Danni Williams had 25 points and Brandi Gomez had 13. Clovis is now 24-0.

Volcano Vista 60, Rio Rancho 38
The Lady Hawks received a big win over Rio Rancho last night. Hannah Fenske led with 18. The Hawks are now 18-4.

Manzano 61, Eldorado 58
Eldorado's Zach Gentry had a monster game with 30 points and 12 rebounds. However, it wasn't enough to hold of the Monarchs, who are finally coming out of their shell. Manzano is now 10-12 on the season, and Eldorado is 14-8.

Sandia 59, La Cueva 37
The Sandia Matadors moved to 17-5 on the year and 4-0 in district play with a 22 point win over La Cueva Thursday Night.

Logan 58, Melrose 51
Junior Wesley Gudgel led the way for Logan with 22 points. Wyatt Strand and Brinton Roach followed up with 10 points each. Logan advances to 14-10, and Melrose falls to an even 11-11.

Sandia Prep 49, Santa Fe Indian 41
The Sundevils earned an 8 point away win Thursday night. Breana Abeita led the way with 10 points. SFIS's Kayla Joe led all scorers with 20. Prep advances to 15-7, while the Braves fall to 9-15.

Logan 68, Melrose 45
Logan, led by just one senior, defeated the visiting Melrose squad by 23 last night. Brooke Rachor led the way with 22, followed by Shana Sorrels, 14, and Mckenna Stone, 11. Logan advances to 19-5 on the season, and Melrose goes 14-10.

Elida 66, San Jon 38
Three players were in double figures in last night's road win for Elida. These players included Kaylen Jasso, 19, Taylor Epps, 13, and Marily Varela, 11. Elida advances to 13- 7 on the season.

Valley 70, Albuquerque High 49
The Vikings added 21 point victory over their rivals to their record. Adonis Saltes led with 20 and Joe Anaya added 17. With the win, the Vikings advance to 19-2 on the season, while Albuquerque High falls to 7-14.

Atrisco Heritage 92, Rio Grande 47
The Jaguars remain in second place in their district after a big win over Rio Grande. Corbin Waquie led the way with 24. The Jaguars advance to 17-4 and the Ravens fall to 4-17.

Highland 68, West Mesa 64
The Hornets won last night thanks to their shooting from behind the arc. Marcus Mitchell had 20 points, making 4 of the 9 3 pointers. Eric Gutierrez led West Mesa with 15. Highland is now 15-6, while the Mustangs go 12-9.

Hope Christian 76, Sandia Prep 45
The number 1 3A squad, led by 8 Seniors, defeated the Sundevils, who have 8 sophomores last night. Big man Austen Drake led the way with 16. Zac Williams added 12 and Brandon Zabala had 10. Jacob Helper had 14 for the Sundevils. Hope advances to 20-3, and Prep falls 10-12.

Cibola 48, Volcano Vista 45
The Cougars earned first place in their district last night as they defeated the Hawks by 3. Kristin Dearth led the way with 17, Hannah Fenske had 16 for the Hawks. Cibola is now 19-2, while Volcano goes 17-4.

Ramah 74, Navajo Prep 66
If there is one name you should know in girls' basketball, it is Jordyn Lewis. Lewis, only a sophomore, scored 46 points last night in her team's victory. Ramah is now 15-8 on the season.

Sandia 48, Eldorado 44
The Matadors handed the Eagles their first district loss yesterday, as they took over the first place spot. Sandia is now 16-5 and Eldorado is 14-7.

Cleveland 65, Rio Rancho 56
After a 9 point victory, the Storm earns a tie for first place of the district with opponent Rio Rancho. Marcus Williams had 22 and Ryan Jones added 21. Brady Patterson had 18 for the Rams. Cleveland advances to 18-5 and Rio goes 11-12.

Manznao 66, La Cueva 42
The Monarchs may be starting to show their true colors as duo T.J. Holyfield and Warren Smith led them to victory. Holyfield had 22 and Smith added 21. The Monarchs are now 9-12.

Volcano Vista 46, Cibola 44
In a two point victory, the Hawks defeated the Cougars to advance to 2-1 in district play. Seth Warfield had 16 on the night. The Hawks advance to 14-7.

Mayfield 47, Gadsden 44
In one of the closest districts in the state, the Trojans defeated Gadsden in overtime by 3. Isaac Rivera led with 14. The Trojans are tied for second in the district at 3-2, while Gadsden and Cruces are tied at first with a 4-2 record.

Los Lunas 75, Grants 60
Duo Chris Sanchez and Jacob Holland continue to take the state by storm as they led the Tigers to victory last night. Sanchez had 22, while Holland added 20. Chad Murphy also added 10. Los Lunas advances to 17-5.

St. Pius 61, Academy 60
In a repeat of last year's 4A state final, the Sartans once again came out on top. Ray Reyes led with 21 points. With the win, St. Pius advances to 15-6, while Academy is 12-9.

Santa Fe Prep 74, Penasco 43
If there is one thing the Griffins do well, its win at home. Four players hit double digits last night as they defeated Penasco to keep their undefeated home record. Ian Anderson had 17 and 10 rebounds, Francis Castillo y Mulert added 13, Diego Perea, 11, and William Lenestey with 10. The Griffins are now 18-4.

Hagerman 59, Cloudcroft 55
At 7-0, Hagerman keeps the perfect home record as they defeated Cloudcroft by just 4. Jessie Rodriquez had 19 points and 12 rebounds, Alejandro Ramos added 13 and Jose Bejarano with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Hagerman goes 18-7.

Centennial 76, Deming 47
The Hawks defeated Deming by 29 last night. Cesar Molina led the way with 37 big points.

Mesilla Valley 71, Hatch 29
Two players hit it big as the Sonblazers earned another win last night. Jeff Adler and Nick Nunley each had 28 points on the night.

Clovis 62, Carlsbad 36
The Lady Wildcats have done it again, this time they defeated the Cavegirls of Carlsbad. Danni Williams led the way with 21 and Brandi Gomez added 17. The Cats advance to 23-0.

Las Cruces 61, Onate 35
The Lady Bulldawgs continue to win as they defeated district opponent Onate by 26. Alina Fassa dropped 30 on the night. Las Cruces is now 15-8.

Hope Christian 53, Sandia Prep 25
After being ahead by just one in the 1st quarter, the freshmen led Huskies took the game away as they defeated the visiting Sundevils by 28. Fresshman Alivia Lewis led the way with 17 points, while fellow freshman Brielle Milford had 10. Kalei Yepa had 15 for the Sundevils. Hope advances to 17-6.

Santa Fe Prep 60, Penasco 43
Alexis Lundt had 21 points and Bianca Gonzales added 17 in Santa Fe Prep's win last night. With the win, they advance to 12-8 on the season.

Los Lunas 76, Kirtland Central 47
The Lady Tigers roll on as they defeated Kirtland by 29 last night. Tiege Zeller led the way with 36 big points.
