Week 15: Thursday Night Recap

Today we recap the 4th night of Week 15. All district tournaments will continue Friday and Saturday Night. Seeding and selection is on NMPreps.com Sunday.

Cleveland 58, Rio Rancho 51
For the fourth time this season, the Storm topped rivals Rio Rancho. With the 7 point victory, Cleveland advances to the Championship game at Volcano Vista on Saturday. Jacob Earnest had 24 points to lead his team to victory. Walter Salata had 15 for Rio. Cleveland advances to 21-7, while Rio Rancho falls to 12-16.

Eldorado 73, Manzano 56
The Eagles advance to the championship game, after a 17 point victory over the Monarchs. Zach Gentry dropped 20 big points, while Zak Mayberry added 17. TJ Holyfield dropped 20 for Manzano. Eldorado advances to 17-8, and the Monarchs district tournament ends with a record of 12-14.

Carlsbad 59, Clovis 50

With an undefeated home court record, and a 9 point victory over Clovis, the Cavemen are headed to the district final. Brenden Boatwright led Carlsbad with 19 points, followed by Joshua Miller's 14. Willie McCray had 18 for Clovis. Carlsbad advances to 19-9, while Clovis drops to 12-14.

Las Cruces 55, Gadsden 48
The defending 5A state champs play on as they upset Gadsden by 7 last night. Malik Woods led with 22 points and Michael Uribe added 12. William Contreras had 19 for the Panthers. Cruces travels to rival Mayfield for the championship game on Saturday.

St. Mikes 39, Sandia Prep 35

The Sundevils end their district tournament with something they haven't had in a long time, a losing record. The young squad, led by sophomores, couldn't hang on as they lost by just 4 to the home squad. Prep ends with a 13-14 record. St. Mikes travels to Hope Christian Saturday with a record of 21-6.

Texico 50, Santa Rosa 41

Miquel Reyna had a big 24 point game as he led his team to victory last night. Justin Rucker also added 10. Robert Zamora knocked out 3 threes to end with 14 points for Santa Rosa. Texico advances to 24-3.

Bosque 49, Estancia 39
The Bobcats finished their last home game of the season with a 10 point victory. Three players hit double digits including; Gabe Chavez, 15, Tommy Miller, 12 and Miles Horton, 10. Chavez also racked in 16 rebounds. Bosque advances to 15-11 on the season.

Magdalena 81, Desert Academy 55
The Steers finish with an undefeated home record, as they earned a huge win last night. Sophomore Michael Chambers led the way with 21 points. Tyler Julian added 16, Jorrell Mirabal had 14, and Brandal Padilla and Dre Montoya added 13 each. Magdalena advances to an impressive 27-1.

Logan 57, Melrose 45
Three players landed in double digits for Logan last night. Junior Wyatt Strand had 26 points and Wesley Gudgell and Dennis Earle added 12 each. Logan advances to 17-10 and Melrose goes 13-12.

Girls | Scoreboard

Volcano Vista 71, Cleveland 25
Cleveland's season could be over as they lost by 46 to the Lady Hawks. Dynamic duo Hannah Fenske and Deezha Battle each had 19 points on the night. The 20-5 Hawks advance to play Cibola in the district championship.

Las Cruces 67, Onate 44
The Lady Bulldawgs head to the championship game with a 23 point victory over Onate. Darian Cabralles led with 14 points. Las Cruces is headed to rival Mayfield on Saturday.

District Tournaments

District Tournament Games will take place from Feb. 24th to March 1st. Tournament Brackets will be released on NMPreps.com on March 2nd
