Zach Gentry Commits
Zach Gentry is headed to Texas. Today, the Rivals.com 4-star quarterback out of Eldorado (N.M.) Albuquerque made his college football commitment to play for new Texas Longhorns Football Coach Charlie Strong after his senior season.
"My final top 4 were Texas, Alabama,Tennessee, and Oklahoma State. In the end it came down to where I was most comfortable. The new staff at Texas had first offered me when they were still at Louisville. Coach Strong along with Texas Quarterback Coach Shawn Watson and I really formed a great relationship and once I visited Austin I just feel in love with their campus and their facilities," Said Gentry.
The 6-foot-7, 240 pound pro-style quarterback was one of the most sought-out New Mexico High School Football Prospect since Artesia's Landry Jones who ended up committing to Oklahoma back in 2007.
"I really feel that I have a shot to compete and play early at Texas. Obviously I need to continue to develop more as a quarterback, but early playing time at Texas was also a key factor in my decision," commented Gentry on additional key factors in the recruiting process.
NMPreps.com was also able to get a quote from Eldorado Head Football Coach Charlie Dotson today.
"I am very happy for Zach and his verbal commitment. Now he can relax heading into finals week. Texas being close to New Mexico will also provide more opportunities for his family to see him play in college. Charlie Strong and his staff, along with most of the major college football coaches were extremely classy throughout this process." Said Head Eldorado Football Coach Charlie Dotson.
