Over the next few weeks we'll be releasing our summer New Mexico High School Football Rankings. The Rankings are based off incoming seniors, rising juniors and sophomores, and losses to graduation.
NMPreps.com's Top 50 Countdown
37 5A
Aztec Tigers
Head Coach: Matt Steinfeldt
Last year under second year Head Coach Matt Steinfeldt the Tigers went 4-6 and missed the 2013 playoffs. The good news is they return Marcus Crawford at quarterback who threw for 2,100-yards and 25 touchdowns last year. They also return Josh Harris who caught for just under 1,000-yards and 12 touchdowns.
38 4A
Kirtland Central Broncos
Head Coach: Kevin Graham
Kirtland Central got somewhat of a sweet deal moving from into a district along side teams like Bloomfield, Shiprock, Thoreau, Wingate, and Zuni. If they put it together well enough, Kirtland can start making a march to the playoffs annually. They graduate Reggie Mackey at TE/DE who committed to play basketball at the University of Denver. Look for Kirtland to be a great addition to the new Class 4A old 3A.
39 4A
Bloomfield Bobcats
Head Coach: Bob Allcorn
New Head Coach and Former Longtime Coach at Moriarty takes over the Bobcats who were 7-4 last year under Bruce Hatch. They ended the year with a 49-14 playoff loss against the Toas Tigers. They lose two-year starting quarterback Robert Lyon, but return a few skill guys which should keep them in the mix come district time.
40 3A
Dexter Demons
Head Coach: Frank Sandoval
The Demons made a real run last year going 9-3 under Frank Sandoval losing in the mud-bowl semifinals against Hatch 31-20. This group loses a ton of talent including guys like Kyle Bonner, Kevin Bonner, and All-State Linemen Jaden Amaro. The good news is it looks like they return some quality linemen and watch for rising star Dominic Lomeli to rise up at the quarterback position.
41 3A
Estancia Bears
Head Coach: Stewart Burnett
Entering their third year under Head Football Coach Stewart Burnett, Estancia is one small school program which gaining rapid growth in the strength department and development department. They went 7-5 last year and played state champ Clayton close not once, but twice. This year they return Caleb Ortiz at the fullback and linebacker position, he is a 6-foot-4, 225 next level prospect.
42 4A
Hope Christian Huskies
Head Coach: Diego Brusuelas
The Huskies went 6-6 last year with a playoff win against Raton and a playoff loss against Silver. Hope has had a few coaches in and out already in their young existence of a football program, but Deigo Brusuelas (current head coach) has proven he can win before in New Mexico. This year Hope Christian returns a few rising linemen.
43 4A
Academy Chargers
Head Coach: Kevin Carroll
Every year you think ok, this is the year that Academy misses the playoffs or drops off when you see their football program. Every year Kevin Carroll continues to pull a rabbit out of the hat and take Academy to winning season after winning season. They won 7 games last year before losing to Pojoaque 41-40 in the playoffs. Watch for Cody Volk at quarterback who had a very nice junior season.
44 3A
Cobre Indians
Head Coach: Jerry Martinez
Cobre won an amazing 9 games last year before coming up just short in the quarterfinals losing to Dexter 14-6. Cobre could be just as good as last year, if not even a step up under Head Coach Jerry Martinez. They return 2,500-yard passer Calvin Roberson and few key receivers. Don't sleep on a potential giant looming in Southwest, New Mexico.
45 4A
Portales Rams
Head Coach: Jamie Ramirez
What makes us think that Portales will stay in the mix of things this year heading into their new football district along side: NMMI, Ruidoso, St. Mike's, and Hope is the fact that Jamie Ramirez remains as Head Coach. Also, we like the fact that rising junior Bronte Staugaard returns and will be one of the top players in the new Class 4A.
46 3A
Laguna Acoma Hawks
Head Coach: Rodger Cordova
Watch for Laguna Acoma to be around the same talent as last year or even a step up with 2,000-yard Running Back David McGee returning for his senior season. The Hawks were defeated by Hatch 49-24 in the quarterfinals, but silenced a lot of critics wit ha 49-24 win over Texico in the opening round of the playoffs.
47 3A
Texico Wolverines
Head Coach: Ryan Autrey
We might add Texico to the list of question mark teams headed into the 2014 season. Last year (2013) the Wolverines won just 4 games which was a 5 game step back from the 2012 season. Losing to Laguna Acoma 38-7 in the playoffs has to of added some offseason motivation.
48 3A
Navajo Prep Eagles
Head Coach: Roderick Denetso
Don't think anyone thought that Navajo Prep would win 10-games and reach the Class 2A quarterfinals. The Eagles scored nearly 600 points last year and defeated NMMI 63-45 in the playoffs. Tyler Sorensen threw for an amazing 4,064-yards and 51 touchdowns as just a junior.

49. NMMI
50. Eunice
