The first annual NMPreps.com Elite Quarterback Challenge will be held today June 27th at the World Famous Bulldog Bowl in Artesia. 50 Quarterbacks from across the State of New Mexico will be attendance. Today we breakdown and preview which quarterbacks will be at the event.

Top Guns

Taylor Sorensen out of Navajo Prep is name you likely have not heard of, however over the course of the last two years he has thrown for 6,308-yards and 78 touchdowns. Last year as a junior Sorensen threw for 4,064-yards and 51 touchdowns leading the Navajo Prep Eagles into the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

Ruidoso's Cade Patterson threw for over 1,500-yards last year. At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Patterson looks to be one of the top returning Class 4A Quarterbacks and of course it helps when you have one of the State's top receivers returning as well in Parker Johnson.

Cavin Roberson out of Cobre High School threw for nearly 3,000-yards last year as a junior. He is somewhat of a newcomer despite his big time numbers, will be exciting to see him throw under the lights.

Garrett Gibson out of Valencia is another two-year starter with some great size. He stands 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds, not sure how much he'll throw it consider he has two of the best running backs in the state behind him, but still a good prospect to keep tabs on.

Jordan Velasquez will be one of the top dual threat quarterbacks in New Mexico. He played under Bo Coleman (Gatorade Player of the Year last year) so he did not start, but we expect big things from him this year.

Super Juniors

We have an amazingly talented junior class in New Mexico (Class of 2016). Out of Las Cruces High School is Kameron Miller at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. He led the Bulldawgs to the 5A state championship last year as just a sophomore.

Miller is a gamer and likely the strongest quarterback in New Mexico. Josh williams is well built at 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds. He's put on some good size since last year and is another dual threat to watch. Williams started as a sophomore and continues to impress.

Justin Houghtaling broke his elbow last year so he did not see varsity time in Artesia last year, but is 100% heeled and from what we hear, he has a shot to go to the next level. At 6-foot-3/6-foot-4 and 160 pounds Houghtaling throws a great ball and can breakdown coverages.

Out of Hagerman, New Mexico Alejandro Ramos will be in attendance. Last year as just a sophomore he threw for 2,096-yards and 29 touchdowns leading Hagerman to the 1A State Title with a perfect record of 13-0. Ramos is New Mexico's version of Jonny Manziel.

Anthony Sanchez is another name to keep tabs on from the Class of 2015. Sanchez had a solid season at Los Lunas last year before breaking his collar bone. Very good passer.

Newcomers & Underclassmen

Watch for Alex Shay out of Piedra Vista. We've seen the last name Shay a few times over the last 5-years at Piedra Vista and every time the athlete is a difference maker. Cade Hackey out of Hatch, New Mexico has a brother that played D-1, we look forward to seeing what he can do as a Class of 2017 prospect.

Chris Peralta out of Belen does not get a chance to throw it much coming from an option oriented offense like Belen, but he will be a three year starter for the Eagles. Daulton Hatley is fighting for a starting spot at Clovis High School, Dante Urrera will take over at Deming (dual threat guy), and Julian Segura is a very good junior to watch, and Steven Herrera is a two year starter at Gadsden. All names to know.

Stay tuned for a complete camp recap which will be posted on NMPreps.com following the event.
