Recap: 7th Annual Elite Combine Draws 200

Over 200 of the most premier high school football players from across of New Mexico attended the NMPreps.com Elite Combine Powered by Defined Fitness Saturday at Cleveland High School.

RIO RANCHO, NEW MEXICO - There were records broken, underclassmen that emerged as MVP's, and tons of overall talent at the 7th annual NMPreps.com Elite Combine.

From the get-go, it was Atrisco Heritage's James Romero who broke the combine's long standing bench record of 34 reps of 185 pounds with 42, Romero has close to a 400 pound bench. Josh Burbank out of Valencia who is be recruited to run track at Alabama and Auburn ran a blazing 4.31, which is also a new combine record.

Talent ran deep with quarterbacks, especially underclassmen quarterbacks with three walking away with MVP Awards. Kameron Miller out of Las Cruces was named the 2014 NMPreps.com Elite Combine MVP (selected by the coaches/combine staff).

Gabe Ortega out of Cleveland High School was named Combine Offensive MVP, and Junior Daulton Hatley out of Clovis, New Mexico was named the quarterback MVP.

New Mexico State Commit Isaiah McIntyre won the Receiver MVP Award displaying some great talent in the showcase and made some big grabs on the day.

Meet O'Maury Samuels a 6-foot-1, 170-pound running back out of Los Lunas from the Class of 2017 who won the Running Back MVP Award. Samuels showed impressive speed and power and it shocked the crowd when they announced he was only an incoming sophomore.

Junior Linemen George Nino checked in a 6-foot-1 and 317 pounds and did not disappoint on the one-on-one's as he walked away with the Offensive Linemen MVP Award. There were several big time offensive linemen that showed well (full recap coming soon)

The defensive was really dominated by big time prospects from Valley High School. Dominic Brown out of Valley walked away with the Defensive Linemen MVP, Michael Barboa earned the Linebacker MVP Award, and Jordan Velasquez from Valley won the Defensive Back MVP, all three were outstanding on the day.

The Defensive MVP was Blair Manly out of Cibola High School who was recently offered by New Mexico. He ran a 4.4 and did work in the one-on-one's.

Defensive MVP was Blair Manley from Cibola
QB MVP was Daulton Hately from Cleveland
RB MVP was O'Maury Samuels from Los Lunas *Sophomore
WR MVP was Isaiah McIntyre from Las Cruces
OL MVP was Gorge Nino from Centennial
DL MVP was Dominic Brown from Valley
LB MVP was Michael Barboa from Valley
DB MVP was Jordan Velasquez from Valley
