Kyle Henderson's Early Summer Outlook
1
Farmington
1-5A
The Farmington Scorpions won the 2013 Class 4A State Title with less than 30 guys on their roster under Head Coach Gary Bradley beating Goddard 7-0. This year you would think that Farmington has to take a step back losing so many seniors, but that might not be the case with guys like Avery Rasher, Kyle Flower... More Here
2
Goddard
4-5A
Last year Goddard went 9-3 reaching the 2013 Class 4A State Title Game and lost 7-0 against Farmington. Over the off-season, longtime coach Sam Jernigan (most successful coach in Goddard Rocket history) resigned in a shocker. More Here
3
Belen
3-5A
One Head Coach in New Mexico that doesn't get highlighted enough is John Lerma. Since taking over in the mid 2000's Lerma has take the Eagles to new heights and are a playoff regular. Last year they went 9-3 coming up short losing 14-7 against Farmington in the semifinals. More Here
4
Los Lunas
3-5A
Last year's Los Lunas Tigers team was one of the best 4A teams we've seen in a while, they just could not put it together late in the year losing against Goddard 35-28 in the Wool Bowl. Los Lunas will again enter the 2014 season with a new Head Coach as Terrell Trantham takes over.. More Here
5
Valencia
3-5A
Last year under Kevin Jolley the Jaguars reeled off 7 wins including an impressive playoff win against Piedra Vista winning in a shootout 47-38. This year Valencia is stacked, likely their best team since the Kelley Lee days. More Here
6
Centennial
3-5A
The Hawks won the District 3-4A Title last year defeating Deming 28-14 and then won their first playoff game in school history defeating Santa Fe 36-2 just one week later. Centennial finally graduated some seniors, but return some of the best offensive linemen and defensive linemen in New Mexico. More Here
7
Artesia
4-5A
The Artesia Bulldogs went 4-7 last year and finished 1-1 in district. The reached the playoffs to face Moriarty in the first round and lost in three overtimes 48-41. they were young last year and don't graduate many high profile names. More Here
8
Moriarty
5-5A
Moriarty is the team that always seems to get left out or forgotten about, but last year they won 7 games including a triple overtime win against Artesia. This year, first year Head Coach Joe Anaya takes over the program... More Here
9
Piedra Vista
1-5A
The Panthers finished 7-4 in 2013 after starting out the year 7-2. They lose two three year starters in Isaiah Valdez at quarterback and Beau Clafton at running back, two big blows for the offense. More Here
10
Roswell
4-5A
The Coyotes are entering year two under head coach Jeff Lynn. Last year Roswell went back to the playoffs with a 6-5 record, but still had a tough time in district against both Artesia and Goddard losing by a combined score of 76-7. More Here
11
Del Norte
2-5A
This will be year three under head coach Bruce Binkley at Del Norte High School. Last year the Knights just missed out on the playoffs but showed major signs of improvements. More Here
12
Aztec
1-5A
Last year under second year Head Coach Matt Steinfeldt the Tigers went 4-6 and missed the 2013 playoffs. The good news is they return Marcus Crawford at quarterback who threw for 2,100-yards and 25 touchdowns last year. More Here
13
St. Pius X
5-5A
The Sartans went 3-7 during the 2013 season and 0-2 in district losing their last two against Del Norte and Moriarty. This year's squad is going to have some playmakers with guys like Dillon Bowels and Miles Hilton emerging over the summer.
14
Lovington
4-5A
Last year the Lovington Wildcats missed the 2013 playoffs going 1-9. The last time they missed the playoffs a few years ago they would reel off a few state titles in the following years. They got a tough break being placed in 5A along side Artesia, Goddard, and Roswell for district.
15
Los Alamos
2-5A
The Hilltoppers went 4-6 in the 2013 season just missing the playoffs after losing to Santa Fe 28-9. This year Los Alamos returns some good talent including Elliot Hershman who is a 207 pound next level guy.
16
Miyamura
1-5A
Miyamura went 2-8 last year missing the 2013 playoffs. Bright spots came from beating Grants and City Rival Gallup in the final game of the year 39-30. Josiah Shank returns at quarterback and watch for rising running back AJ Starkovich who shined at the combine.
17
Academy
5-5A
Are Academy's football days numbered? That is the question we've heard this summer after the Chargers were moved from 3A to 5A this year. Last year the Chargers won 7 games with just 6 seniors on the roster. Coach Carroll has a strong track record of winning esepcially in crunch time.
18
Santa Teresa
3-5A
The Desert Warriors went 1-9 last year with their only win coming against EP Austin in week 2. They do graduate some seniors, but also return some very talented skill guys like Luke Perea at quarterback and watch for linemen Angel Nunez who is 255 pounds.
19
Gallup
1-5A
The Bengals are just 5-15 over the last two years and ended the 2013 season losing their last 6-games in a row. Moving into a district with Farmington, Piedra Vista, and Aztec will present even more challenges.
20
Capital
2-5A
Some say that Capital could be the surprise of the 2014 season. With Head Coach Bill Moon returning for his 2nd consecutive season, Capital finally seems to have some stability. Watch for RB Kevin Brown.
21
Espanola
2-5A
Migeul Medina and the Espanola Valley Sun Devils went 1-9 last year beating SFIS 50-0. They return some talented juniors and seniors into the 2014 season.
22
Bernalillo
2-5A
The Bernalillo Spartans will be coached by Trent Spencer this year who replaces Ken Noel. Last year Bernalillo went 3-7 with wins over Capital, Santa Fe, and Espanola.
23
Grants
5-5A
It's clear that this team is ranked too low, but with their Head Coach out just days before the seaosn, it's a big blow to the Pirates who already have to replace a ton of talent lost to graduation.
24
Chaparral
3-5A
The Lobos went 1-9 last year with their lone win of the season coming against Santa Teresa 14-7. Chaparral is 1-19 over the last two-years.
