Rank
High School
'14 District
Kyle Henderson's Early Summer Outlook
1
Robertson
2-4A
One of the greater story lines of the 2013 season was Robertson's late season run to the state title game winning their last 5 games in a row and defeating favorite after favorite in the playoffs. More Here
2
St. Michael's
4/5-4A
The Horsemen are 36-3 since the 2011 season. It's remarkable that this program continues to churn out the talent year after year despite losing big names to graduation continually. More Here
3
Silver
3-4A
The Colts have reached the Class 3A state title game twice over the last two years and been beat in both games (two years ago against St. Mike's, last year to Robertson). More Here
4
Ruidoso
4/5-4A
This is the year that Ruidoso has been waiting for. Last year they went 8-3 before losing to Silver 41-28 in the playoffs. This year their roster is filled with guys ready to go all out. More Here
5
Hatch
3-4A
The Hatch Valley Bears went 10-3 during the 2013 season losing to the Clayton Yellow Jackets 28-6 in the 2A finals. They lose Chase Carson at quarterback and also graduate Miguel Gonzalez in the trenches. More Here
6
Taos
2-4A
The Tigers had an amazing run last year going 10-2 on the year under Flavio Lopez. Though they came up short in the semifinals losing to Robertson 21-16, they don't graduate too many impact players. More Here
7
Kirtland
1-4A
Kirtland Central got somewhat of a sweet deal moving from into a district along side teams like Bloomfield, Shiprock, Thoreau, Wingate, and Zuni. If they put it together well enough, Kirtland can start making a march to the playoffs annually. More Here
8
Bloomfield
1-4A
New Head Coach and Former Longtime Coach at Moriarty takes over the Bobcats who were 7-4 last year under Bruce Hatch. They ended the year with a 49-14 playoff loss against the Toas Tigers. More Here
9
Hope
4/5-4A
The Huskies went 6-6 last year with a playoff win against Raton and a playoff loss against Silver. Hope has had a few coaches in and out already in their young existence of a football program, but Deigo Brusuelas (current head coach) has proven... More Here
10
Portales
4/5A-4A
What makes us think that Portales will stay in the mix of things this year heading into their new football district along side: NMMI, Ruidoso, St. Mike's, and Hope is the fact that Jamie Ramirez remains as Head Coach. More Here
11
Cobre
3-4A
Cobre won an amazing 9 games last year before coming up just short in the quarterfinals losing to Dexter 14-6. Cobre could be just as good as last year, if not even a step up under Head Coach Jerry Martinez. More Here
12
Socorro
3-4A
Socorro went 0-10 if you can believe that last year, so having them ranked at 12 might be a big too high. However, good things have started to turn this summer with Queving Redding taking over as head coach. No doubt Redding has his work cut out for him.
13
Pojoaque
2-4A
The Elks won 6 games last year under John Ainsworth and even reeled off a playoff win against Academy winning 41-40 in a thriller. They do lose some big guns to graduation, but they've improved each year under Ainsworth. Sleeper team perhaps?
14
NMMI
4/5-4A
The Colts won 5-games last year and went 1-1 in district before losing to Navajo Prep in the playoffs 63-45. Each year, you never know what NMMI has returning, but as long as Randy Montoya stays as head coach the Colts are going to have a solid game plan for each week.
15
Hot Springs
3-4A
The Tigers ended the year losing 47-7 against Silver and then 50-0 against Taos in the opening of the 3A playoffs. They return some experience into the 2014 season including 6-foot-5, 265 pound KC Swaim at offensive tackle.
16
West LV
2-4A
Adrian Gonzales takes over the program which went 1-9 during the 2013 season. West Las Vegas has not been the same since the early 2000's and is 3-27 over the last three years.
17
Shiprock
1-4A
The Shiprock Chieftains went 4-6 last year under Head Coach Storm Talbull with wins against Wingate, Thoreau, Dulce, and Zuni. This year Bloomfield and Kirtland Central join the district which could hurt their playoff chances.
18
Wingate
1-4A
The Bears went 4-6 last year and ened the year being outscored 153-20 in their last three games.
19
Zuni
1-4A
The Zuni Thunderbirds went 3-7 last year and 2-2 in district play. Last year the ended the year on a high note beating Ramah and Crownpoint in thrilling back to back games.
20
Thoreau
1-4A
Last year Thoreau won 6 games, so ranking them at 20 could seem at bit low to start the season. They did lose to Bloomfield 52-0 and lost to Shiprock 42-20, but ended the year with a 46-0 win over SFIS.
