Estancia vs. Hope vs. St. Pius X in Estancia August 20th at 4:00PM
What to watch for: Estancia is entering the year with a good amount of talent, watch for Calen Ortiz their 6-foot-4, 210 pound fullback. Hope Christian returns Caleb Meyer Hagen who threw for over 2,000-yards, but which receivers are returning? St. Pius X has a prospect that caught our eye this summer in Dillon Bowels.
La Cueva at Cleveland August 21st
What to watch for: La Cueva returns 9 defensive starters into the 2014 season, including Mitchell Cantwell their 230 pound linebacker. La Cueva's offense has looked good this summer winning three 7-On's. Cleveland is junior heavy, but that's ok when 3-4 of their juniors are D-1 prospects. New quarterback this year will be Gabe Ortega.
Eldorado at Rio Rancho August 21st
What to watch for: We'll get to see Texas Commit Zach Gentry at quarterback air it out for the first time this year, which receivers will step up, what sort of line does Eldorado have. For Rio Rancho, their quarterback is three year returner Easton Bruere and the defense should be solid with Ikiaka Waters and Miguel Barreras each healthy.
Belen vs. Hobbs in Ruidoso August 21st
What to watch for: The Belen Eagles have a good amount of preseason hype, with 4 out of their 5 returning offensive linemen back from a solid season in 2013. Three year quarterback Chris Perlta has looked impressive. For the Hobbs Eagles, let's see what new quarterback Isaac Amaya can do with a handful of new receivers, that have made plays all summer. Hobbs OL/DL vs. Belen's OL/DL should be a very good match up.
Tucumcari vs. Robertson August 21st
Watch to watch for: The Rattlers are coming off a 1-9 season and open the 2014 season up with a scrimmage against the defending Class 3A champs. New quarterback for Tucumcari will be Tyler Ferguson. The defending Class 3A champs return a ton of talent, especially up front. Watch for Josh Romero at 320 pounds along with Andrew Ellis who is around 260.
Las Cruces vs. Clovis in Ruidoso August 22nd
What to watch for: This renewed scrimmage will take place in Ruidoso at the middle school most likely, so seek directions early. Clovis graduates Kamal Cass at running back, but their offensive line is massive, new Wildcat Quarterback is Daulton Hatley. For Las Cruces aka the two time defending Class 5A state champ they return New Mexico State Commit Isaiah McIntyre at receiver/safety and Kameron Miller who started at quarterback as just a sophomore. Watch for defensive ends Cody Murillo and Garrett Salopek.
Valencia vs. Los Alamos vs. Piedra Vista - Need Time/Date
What To Watch For: Will be our first look at Valencia this year as they'll likely unleash their speed for the first time, guys like Nate Nash and Josh Burbank are 4.4 guys. For Los Alamos watch for Elliott Hershman their 215 pound linebacker. Piedra Vista graduates a ton of talent, lets see what they bring to the table.
Carlsbad vs. Lovington - Need Time/Date
What To Watch For: Lovington is coming off a 1 win season, but we saw them this summer and they return some very good linemen up front, expecting a different team (better) in 2014. Carlsbad's new quarterback will be Kaleb Stevens and he has plenty of options to throw to: Travis Kessler, Shakur Smith, and a dangerous running back by the name of Elijah McCoy.
Additional Scrimmages taking place
Clayton vs. Guymon (OK) vs. Woodward (OK) August 22nd
Santa Teresa vs. Mountain View at Santa Teresa
Tularosa vs. Anthony (TX)
West LV vs. Portales vs. Santa Rosa vs. Clovis JV in Portales
Texico vs. Bovina (TX)
