Southeast Player of the Week *Overall POW*** Justin Houghtaling - Artsia
Junior Quarterback Justin Houghtaling of Artesia won the overall NMPreps.com Week 1 Player of the Week (Premium Subscribers Vote) after a monster week 1 performance. Houghtaling led Artesia to a 40-14 win over Belen throwing for 508-yards and 5 touchdowns. The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend against Hobbs.
North Player of the Week - David McGee - Laguna Acoma
Nearly won the overall Week 1 NMPreps.com Player of the Week Award (one vote shy) after accounting for more than 475 all purpose yards against Navajo Prep in a 75-34 victory Friday Night. McGee ran over 300-yards, returned a punt for a touchdown, and even threw a touchdown on the night, racking up 8-touchdowns.
Metro Area Player of the Week - Easton Bruere - Rio Rancho
Easton Bruere keeps racking up the yards (over 6,200 career yards) after throwing for 270 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 55-0 victory over Valley. Bruere still an uncommitted prospect is clearly a next level prospect looking for a home. The Rams take on El Paso Americas in week 2.
Southwest Player of the Week - Kavika Johnson - Mayfield
The Mayfield Trojans and the Hobbs Eagles combined for 90 total points on Saturday at the Field of Dreams. Johnson who has offers from New Mexico, New Mexico State, UTEP, and BYU had an incredible day throwing for 192-yards, rushing for 181-yards, and scoring 4 touchdowns to lead the Trojans to a 55-35 win over Hobbs. Mayfield takes on El Paso Franklin in Week 2.
Coach of the Week: Dale Hooper - Alamogordo
Last year Dale Hooper in his first year as Head Coach at Alamogordo won just 1 game. Last Friday Night they matched that win total with a monster 39-0 victory over Valencia in week 1. Team of the Week: Artesia Bulldogs
You don't just roll into the Bulldog Bowl and pull out a "W". Friday Night two of the most well decorated head coaches in New Mexico met in a game that was all Artesia. After the score was 7-7 in the 1st, Artesia Quarterback Josh Houghtaling hit Matt Barlow for a 60-yard strike.
