Cobre Baseball Wins Class 2A Title

The New Mexico High School Baseball Season came to a close on Saturday night with La Cueva defeating Eldorado in the Class 5A State Championship Game 5-4. In Class 4A it was Piedra Vista defeating Goddard 7-6 in a thriller, and in 3A the Silver City Colts beat Sandia Prep 11-3. Cobre won the 2A state title on Friday defeating Dexter and in Class 1A the Gateway Christian Warriors defeated Dexter. Also stay tuned for our All-Tournament Selections.

Class 2A: Cobre 6, Dexter 0
For the second year in a row the Cobre Indians are Class 2A State Champs. On Friday, Cobre defeated the Dexter Demons 6-0 thanks to big time performances from Willie Fletcher, one of the top pitchers in Class 2A, Nick Salas a three year starter, Claudio Salinas their starting shortstop, and Junior Jordan Benfield who hit a monster two-run HR, his second HR that he has hit at Isotopes Park. Cobre ends the year 24-5.
