La Cueva Bears Win Class 5A Baseball Title

The New Mexico High School Baseball Season came to a close on Saturday night with La Cueva defeating Eldorado in the Class 5A State Championship Game 5-4. In Class 4A it was Piedra Vista defeating Goddard 7-6 in a thriller, and in 3A the Silver City Colts beat Sandia Prep 11-3. Cobre won the 2A state title on Friday defeating Dexter and in Class 1A the Gateway Christian Warriors defeated Dexter. Full championship game recaps are coming soon and will be published Sunday. Class 5A: La Cueva 5, Eldorado 4
The La Cueva Bears defeated the Eldorado Eagles Saturday night in front a large crowd at Isotopes Park. Austen Bell hit a single that drove in two runs in the 5th inning which gave the Bears their final lead of the game at 5-2. The Bears beat Eldorado four times on the year including three times in the district. Chad Smith picked up the win for the Bears on the mound. The Bears finished 26-3 on the season and ended the year riding a 14-game winning streak.
