Changes to Football, Basketball Calendars Overwhelmingly Approved

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A total of 16 Albuquerque-area schools competed in this year’s Metro Passing League, which wrapped up Thursday night at Highland High School.

Two of them – Rio Rancho (Class 6A) and St. Pius X (5A) – will seek to defend state championships won last December when the new campaign begins in late August.

Many other schools, though, are simply striving to take the next step on the road to respectability, or advance deeper into the state playoffs should they qualify. Four such teams are Valley, Highland, Del Norte and Hope Christian. Here is a look at each school going into the 2017 season.
