How It Works: The NMPreps.com Mr. Football Award is given to the best high school football player in the State of New Mexico after each season. Each week during the football season, NMPreps.com tracks the progress of each player, and during the semifinal week of the regular season a final set of candidates will be released. We also take into account coaches thoughts and fan's input based off the NMPreps Message Board. This works just like the Heisman Trophy award.
The 2014 NMPreps.com Mr. Football Winner is Easton Bruereout of Rio Rancho High School. The 6-foot-2, 210 pound quarterback led the Rams to the Class 6A State Championship going 13-0 beating Mayfield 33-31 in the finals.
On the season, Bruere put up some of the most impressive numbers we've seen over the last decade throwing for 4,567-yards and 49 touchdowns with just 6 interceptions. His season ending completion percentage was was 75%.
On the season, Bruere beat both Mayfield's Kavika Johnson and Eldorado's Zach Gentry head to head, both are Johnson and Gentry are D-1 bound, however Bruere has zero offers on the table. Against Mayfield in the finals, Bruere threw for 373-yards and 3 touchdown passes.
Bruere leaves Rio Rancho High with some incredible career passing stats, that likely will never be broke. In three seasons he threw for 10,214-yards and 108 touchdowns.
