Recap: West Mesa rolls in season opener over Highland

The 2014 New Mexico High School Football Season kicked off Wednesday Night at Community Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico as West Mesa cruised to a 36 to 0 victory.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after Mustang Quarterback Marcus Gonzales hooked up with Zach Schroer for a 40-yard touchdown. At the half it was West Mesa 14-0 after a 20-yard touchdown from Gonzales to Dominic Fisher.

In the second half it was more of the same with West Mesa scoring their third touchdown off a Cole Ronnau 3-yard touchdown run followed a few plays later by a safety which made the scored 23-0 in the third quarter.
The Mustangs continued to add it on late in the game with a Jerad Romero rushing touchdown and another touchdown run by Ronnau to make it 36-0 in the 4th quarter.
Player of the Game: Zach Schroer a senior receiver at West Mesa scored the opening touchdown of the season and caught for 120-yards on the night.
Highland has not won since October 10th, 2013. The Hornets have also lost their last 12 out of 13 games. The Hornets will look to get back on track next week against Rio Grande. West Mesa will host Valencia Thursday Night at Community Stadium.
