Artesia 5-1 @ Clovis 2-4
Click The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the 2012 season last weekend against Las Cruces losing 54-27. Though they took it on the chin against a loaded 5A program, Artesia gets even better from playing up against top tier competition. On the season Artesia Quarterback Trevor Eulenbach has thrown for 1,404-yards and 20 touchdowns. Gavino Saiz has step up as a solid addition at running back and two defensive prospects we are blown away by this year are Josh Gonzales and Crosby Figg in the defensive secondary. The Clovis WildcatsHere to view this Link. have dropped four in a row and actually led the Goddard Rockets 21-7, before allowing 44 unanswered points in a 51-21 loss last weekend. The Wildcats have the most dynamic junior running back on in the State of New Mexico on their team in Kamal Cass who has ran for 664-yards this year. The Wildcats are also scoring 36.17 points per game, so they can score with Artesia if it gets into a scoring frenzy.
Carlsbad 4-2 @ Goddard 5-0
The Carlsbad Cavemen topped Rio Grande last weekend by big margin winning 59-6 thanks to five touchdown passes from Rodney Holcomb at quarterback. This weekend they'll need to bring all the offensive weaponry to the Wool Bowl as they have not faired well against the Goddard Rockets in recent years. Carlsbad is scoring 30.17 points per game and has wins against Alamogordo, Del Rio, Texas, and Roswell, and Rio Grande. As you can see the Cavemen are still looking for their staple win this year. The Goddard Rockets ranked No. 1 overall in the State of New Mexico in the latest NMPreps.com Statewide Top 25 beat Clovis last weekend 51-21 after scoring 44 unanswered points. Running Back Cody French has topped over 500-yards on the year rushing behind what we feel is the State's Top Offensive Line unit headlined by next level prospect Kullen Wooten and Juan Vidales. On defense Goddard is allowing just 9.0 pts per game thanks to outstanding play from defensive ends David Chavers and David Sweet.

Hobbs 1-5 @ Lovington 2-3
The Eagles have again struggled to win games this year and are looking for a spark that could propel a late season sure and winning the Lea County Rivalry Game would do just that. This weekend the Eagles who have dropped three in a row will look to their high powered offense to try and out-shoot Lovignton. The Eagles are scoring 25.7 points per game and Quarterback Brayden Price has thrown for over 1,200-yards this year and 10 touchdowns. The Wildcats were idle in week six, so they have had two weeks to prepare for this rivalry game. Lovington has wins against Robertson and Eunice, but their offense has been stuck in the mud this year scoring just 12.4 points per game. The offense needs to get going in a hurry or the Wildcats could be on the verge of a six or seven loss season.
Hope Christian 2-3 @ Portales 1-4
The Hope Christian Huskies defeated the Socorro Warriors last weekend 21-14. Does that mean that Hope Christian has finally woken up from their early season nightmare? On the year Hope Christian is coring 15.0 per game and has losses against Taos, Silver, Santa Rosa, and Bloomfield. Hope Christian is battle tested and has nothing to lose anymore, expect the Huskies to present a new attitude for the next five weeks. The Portales Rams are 1-4 this year and still fighting for a play-off spot, so a win over Hope Christian would be fantastic. They lost to Dexter two weeks ago 15-14 and are scoring just 18.0 points per game.

Artesia 5-1 @ Clovis 2-4
Carlsbad 4-2 @ Goddard 5-0
Hobbs 1-5 @ Lovington 2-3
Hope Christian 2-3 @ Portales 1-4
Tucumcari 5-1 @ Texico 5-0
Santa Rosa 6-0 @ Estancia 3-2
Escalante 6-0 @ Ft. Sumner 3-3
Cloudcroft @ Hagerman
Gateway @ Tatum
Tucumcari 5-1 @ Texico 5-0
Very underrated game in Class 2A this weekend. Last weekend Tucumcari was beaten by Eunice losing 26-14 and it was a step back as Tucumcari had some very good momentum through the mid-way point. With a loss to Eunice, Tucumcari is labeled a middle tier team and needs a win against Texico to jump back into the top tier conversation. Zach Hurd has been their key to success rushing the football this season and last we heard he suffered an injury against Eunice. The Rattlers are scoring 29.0 points per game and allowing just 11.0. The Wolverines defeated Ft. Sumner last weekend 21-18 in a very tight match up. Texico continues their wining ways and this year they have proved they can win the close ones, with several of their games coming down to the final minutes. Texico is led by Shay Harrison who ran for 200-yards and two scores last weekend against Ft. Sumner.
Santa Rosa 6-0 @ Estancia 3-2
District 2-2A beings this weekend and the question remains can anyone in 2A touch Santa Rosa this year? Their offense is scoring 45.3 points per game, defense is allowing just 6.0 points per game, and they have just ran through everything in their way through the first six weeks. The Lions are led by running back Marcus Lopez who has ran for 1,025-yards and 14 touchdowns this year. The Estancia Bears are 3-2 coming off a win against Thoreau which they won 57-6.
Escalante 6-0 @ Ft. Sumner 3-3
The game of the week at the small school level. The Foxes have played a variety of tough 2A teams this year (Santa Rosa/Texico/Clovis JV) and other than their 47-12 loss against Santa Rosa they have played the comp very close. Ft. Sumner is the staple in Class 1A and until they are beaten, they garner a ton of respect no matter who the 1A opposition is. This weekend Escalante comes to town after a 42-28 win over Clayton. The Lobos are scoring over 50 points per game this year and they'll need to be perfect this weekend if they want to beat Ft. Sumner at the Fort.
Metro Area Preview
Los Lunas 5-0 @ Belen 4-1
Click It's finally that time again, The Battle For The Chile Roster, and really the battle for Valencia County in 2012. Last year under blankets of rain Los Lunas was finally able to end Belen's 32-game regular season winning streak with a 21-13 victory. This year the stakes are even higher as both teams are in the top five rankings of Class 4A with Los Lunas being ranked No. 3 and Belen being ranked No. 5. The Tigers are scoring 36.4 Here to view this Link.points per game and their defense has been overly impressive allowing just 44 points on the season (8.8 average). The Tigers have key wins against Sandia and St. Pius X this season. As for the Belen Eagles we are hearing that Starting Quarterback Nick Kurtz is done for the season after suffering another concussion against Goddard in week four. Without Kurtz the Eagles spiraled out of control towards the end of last year without one of the top players in 4A. This year Belen has key wins a giant Deming and Moriarty and is socking 29.9 points per game. This is a rivalry game, but when you line the two teams up on paper, Los Lunas has the 14 point edge.

Los Lunas 5-0 @ Belen 4-1
Eldorado 3-1 @ Rio Rancho 5-1
Cibola 1-4 @ La Cueva 4-1
Cleveland 3-2 @ Sandia 4-1
Valley 2-3 @ Atrisco 4-1
Volcano 2-3 @ Del Norte 2-4
Roswell 4-2 @ Moriarty 3-3
West Mesa 0-5 @ Rio Grande 1-4
Gallup 2-3 @ Valencia 0-5
Eldorado 3-1 @ Rio Rancho 5-1
The Eldorado Eagles are playing some of the best football in the State of New Mexico right now and with a 24-14 win over Mayfield back in week five, it's evident that this group has found their identity with the addition of Sophomore Quarterback Zach Gentry. The Eagles are scoring 32.25 points per game and one prospect that has really emerged into a Friday Night impact player is Running Back George Pacheco. Pacheco currently a bubble all-state running back on our list has had some huge games this year helping the Eagles stay as a balanced offense. Right now, Eldorado is still trying to erase that week one loss to Atrisco Heritage and with a victory over Rio Rancho all will be forgotten and Eldorado could likely garner the number one ranking in New Mexico by beating Rio Rancho. The Rams come into this game at 5-1 this year playing a very tough schedule week in and week out. Last weekend the Rams defeated the Atrisco Heritage Jaguars 49-28 in a game that really was close through three and half quarters. Rio Rancho was led by Senior Safety Dallin Brady who accumulated 14 tackles last weekend and also scored a touchdown on offense. The key to their success this year has been the protection up front allowing Sophomore Quarterback Easton Bruere to throw for over 1,700-yards in six games and the Ram's offense has put up a 43.0 points per game average this year. This game is more than big and if Rio Rancho wins this one, you can finally consider them as the team to beat in Class 5A.
Cibola 1-4 @ La Cueva 4-1
The Cibola Cougars finally won their first game of the season back in week five with a 33-14 win over West Mesa thanks to five touchdowns on the night from Junior Running Back Vincent Gallegos. The Cougars always seem to play one of the toughest schedules in the State of New Mexico, so their record is not indicative of their overall talent on their roster. They have size up front with Rick Ornelas leading the way and have a very good pass rushing defensive end in Desmond Spikes. They have their work cut out for them again thisweekend, but don't write Cibola off just yet. As for the La Cueva Bears, what is not to like about this group. They have a 42-21 loss to a very good Las Cruces team however other than that this team has taken care of business. They are scoring 35.0 points per game thanks to the play of Zach Silva at quarterback. Silva a very underrated pocket style quarterback that just makes plays and avoids making mental errors. La Cueva has a few key wins and in no way can afford to drop this one. They should consider this game a "trap game" because Cibola is much better than they appear on paper.
Cleveland 3-2 @ Sandia 4-1
Cleveland ha won three game in a row, but they still need that staple win this year. Sure a win over Clovis back in week four is big for momentum, but resume wise, Clovis is just 2-4 this year. A convincing win over Sandia this weekend and Cleveland begins to look like a top five team again. The Storm are led by Junior Quarterback Kian Homme who has thrown for over 1,000-yards this year along with New Mexico Lobo Commit Romell Jordan at running back. Their offense is now scoring 27.6 points per game after a 49-6 win over Highland. Up front they have average size and that is where they will not have the edge against Sandia. Big plays for Cleveland will be the difference in this game, paging impact player Steven Steele.
Valley 2-3 @ Atrisco 4-1
Let's be straight up, last weekend's 56-24 loss against Manzano did not look good for Valley. They were looking for the upset or at least looking to keep it close like they did against La Cueva and Eldorado, but they were beaten down so a win against Atrisco Heritage is a must if they want to make the play-offs. Right now, while Valley has played tough through five games the have zero staple wins. Their two wins come against teams that are a combined 1-9. This weekend is huge, Valley is playing for their season, play to win and not to keep it close. The Atrisco Heritage Jaguars proved they can go toe to toe with a 5A giant last weekend in not so lopsided loss to Rio Rancho. Rio Rancho and Atrisco Heritage were actually tied 21-21 until Rio Rancho took control late in the second half. Atrisco Heritage could finish at 9-1 with a win over Valley, which would be remarkable considering this is their first ever year in Class 5A. All Atrisco needs to do is let Nate Goode do his thing and hope that Sophomore Robert Alvidrez creates some big play opportunities.
Volcano Vista 2-3 @ Del Norte 2-4
The Volcano Vista Hawks were defeated by the Mayfield Trojans last weekend 34-24 despite over 250 passing yards from Hawk Senior Quarterback Reid Hendricks. Volcano Vista cannot afford to drop a loss in this game otherwise their play-off bubble will surely being popped. Volcano Vista is also going up against their former Defensive Coordinator Bruce Binkley who is now the head coach at Del Norte, which is an interesting story line. On the season Volcano Vista is scoring 32.0 points per game, but the bad news is that their defense is giving up four touchdowns per game. The Del Norte Knights are coming off a 57-17 loss to Aztec, but let's not forget that over the last two weeks quarterback Tyrelle Jackson has been stellar throwing and rushing for big yards. Against Aztec, Jackson threw for 263-yards and ran for close to 100. Jackson will be the key to their offense in hopes for pulling off the upset.
Roswell 4-2 @ Moriarty 3-3
The Roswell Coyotes win this game against Moriarty and it will be really tough for the NMAA Seeding Committee to leave them out of the 2012 Play-Offs. Moriarty has a key win over Miyamura and Miyamura has a key win over Farmington, so Roswell and their coaching staff has to understand the level of importance in winning this game this weekend. Last week Roswell defeated Gadsden 15-12 and they have now won three in a row. The Coyotes are scoring 28.17 points per game. The Moriarty Pintos are coming off a 50-0 win over the Albuquerque Bulldogs to move to the .500 mark on the season. Senior Running Back Adam Smith continues to lead the offense charge and the Pintos will need plenty of production from him if they want to beat Roswell. This match up is very even and if Moriarty wants to stay in the Class 4A mix they desperately need this win.
West Mesa 0-5 @ Rio Grande 1-4
Last weekend the West Mesa Mustangs nearly won their first game of the 2012 season, but a missed 30-yard field goal in the final minuets resulted in a 28-27 loss to Onate. The Mustangs are scoring just 14.4 points per game this season. The Rio Grande Ravens were defeated by Carlsbad last weekend 59-6 allowing five touchdown passes from Carlsbad Quarterback Rodney Holcomb. The Raven's lone win comes against Valencia back in week two winning 18-15. It's clear both teams need this game.
Gallup 2-3 @ Valencia 0-5
District 6-4A play beings this weekend for two struggling programs trying to salvage their season in district play. Gallup is coming off a 28-20 loss to Kirtland Central, while Valencia is coming off a 21-10 loss to Farmington two weeks ago. This year Gallup has been led by Dominic Martinez at running back who is close to surpassing the 1,000-yard mark this season. Valencia has a youthful roster under first year head coach Kevin Jolley and has played tough against a tough schedule. Edge in this game goes to Valencia because it's at Jaguar Field.

Northern Preview
St. Pius X 3-3 @ Aztec 2-3
Click The St. Pius X Sartans have lost two in a row and desperately need a win against Aztec to keep their play-off hopes in motion. The good thing for St. Pius X is they could drop their next two and drop to 3-5 on the season and still have a shot at the play-offs as they play in a three team district along side Del Norte and Moriarty. St. Pius X is led on offense by TJ Here to view this Link.Sanchez and Nicholas Stafford in the backfield and scoring 28.17 points per game. As for the Tigers of Aztec, they have won two out of their last three with wins against Miyamura and Del Norte. Against Del Norte last weekend, Quarterback Adam Lucero threw for 305-yards helping this squad look like the Tigers of old. Aztec had played one of the toughest schedules in the state and has had plenty of time to heel their early season wounds. Expect this game to play a vital role in the play-off meetings later on down the road.
Los Alamos 3-3 @ Bernalillo 0-6
The Los Alamos Hilltoppers now at .500 with after a thrilling win against Academy need to get off to a hot start in district as they are fighting for a play-off spot. All Los Alamos has to do is win their next four games and they are in the play-offs automatically. Last weekend against Academy Los Alamos Running Back Arnoldo Ortiz ran for over 200-yards. As the for the Bernalillo Sartans they are winless through the mid-way point of the season, something that was not really expected since the Spartans returned 18 starers into this year. They are scoring just over two touchdowns per game and their defense is allowing 34.83 points per game. Last week they lost against Piedra Vista 54-0.
Miyamura 2-3 @ Grants 3-2
You could say this one is for all the marbles if you really wanted to look deep into this match up. Miyamura has a win against Farmington and if they are able to take third in District 6-4A then they would of eliminated Grants and Farmington potentially. Basically for Miyamura, beat Grants and you're in the play-offs. The Patriots are scoring 25.8 points per game and are led by Quarterback Zach Shank who has thrown for over 1,200-yards this year. Grants is 3-2 with wins against Bloomfield, Del Norte, and Santa Fe so they are still right in the mix for the play-offs as well. Grants is led by a next level running back in Timothy White who has close to 1,000-yards this year. If Grants can control the clock and pound the rock, look for Grants to hold on. If these two teams get into a shootout, Miyamura has the scoring edge.
Click Here to view this Link.
Farmington 4-2 @ Bloomfield
Farmington must win these next two games of their season if they want to get into the 2012 play-offs. Sure their 4-2 record looks like this team might be a lock, but remember this team lost to Bubble Team Miyamura 22-14 back in week three and that game is going to come back and bite them in the butt if they don't beat Bloomfield and especially beat Aztec. Right now, Farmington is scoring 27.7 points per game and has won two in a row. They are headlined by Athlete Kyle Reynolds and Running Back Essisel Carrasco. Bloomfield stands at 2-3 on the season after falling to Miyamura last weekend 38-21. Their lone wins on the season come against Hope and Pojoaque and they would love to upset former district rival Farmington this weekend. Look for their Quarterback Robert Lyon to be their play-maker.

West LV @ SFIS
NMMI @ St. Mike's
Ramah @ Crownpoint
Newcomb @ Navajo Pine
Capital 0-5 @ Kirtland Central 2-3
The Capital Jaguars are still winless after a 57-3 loss to the St. Michael's Horsemen last weekend. The good news is they scored their first points of the season. The bad news is the Jaguars have been outscored by a combined 229-3 in five games this year. The Kirtland Central Broncos and New Head Coach Kevin Graham are 2-3 winning their last two games against Espanola and Gallup. They are scoring 16.6 points per game and headlined by defensive end Christian Mackey.
Espanola Valley 1-5 @ Santa Fe 1-4
Espanola Valley's Program is slowly begging to improve under New Head Coach Miguel Medina, however the Sundevils are still struggling to win football games. They are scoring just 11.7 points per game and giving up five touchdown per game on defense. As for the Demons they are led by Quarterback Jordan Booth-Homer and Anthony Abeyta two very solid offensive prospects and don't forget about Marcus Alarid on defense. This team still has enough talent to win the district, which would grant them a play-off spot. It's pretty simple for Santa Fe, win out and you're in.
Pojoaque 4-2 @ Robertson 2-3
Wouldn't Pojoaque make things interesting if they continued to win this year. At 4-2 they have a shot to win the district, they really do. Beating Robertson this weekend is tough to do, but it's not impossible with the Cardinals fielding a very young team this year. Pojoaque has won four in a row led by Quarterback John Ainswoth. The Cardinals are 2-3 coming off an open week and 35-0 win against Capital. If Robertson wants to salvage their early season woes, win this this game.
NMMI 0-6 @ St. Mike's 6-0
The St. Michael's Horsemen have just allowed one offensive score all year long and are outscoring the opposition by a combined 280-25 this year. Their recent three games have been completely lopsided beating Robertson 54-2, beating Santa Fe 55-0, beating Capital 57-3, and now taking on winless NMMI. After the NMMI game the Horsemen will have played teams that are a combined teams that are a combined 0-13 over their last two games. NMMI continues to struggle after losing 54-0 against Capitan last weekend.
Laguna 2-4 @ Tohatchi 5-0
This game is for the district. Laguna Acoma who is coming off a 35-20 win against West Las Vegas has played a tough schedule, so don't write them off just yet. Tohatchi is undefeated after a 38-20 win against Wingate.

Southwest Preview
Las Cruces 4-1 @ Onate 3-3
Click The Las Cruces Bulldawgs posted more than 500-yards off offense against Artesia last weekend in a 54-27 victory in the Bulldog Bowl. Their offense has been led by Jonathan Joy at quarterback who has passed for 1,088-yards and 11 touchdowns. The Bulldawgs featured back is JJ Grandados who has ran for 475-yards and 10 touchdowns. Up front as mentioned several times on NMPreps.com, their offensive and defensive line are massive. The play of defensive tackles Here to view this Link.Taylor Tisby along with Jacob Benegas has been stellar. The Knights are 3-3 this year scoring 26.0 points per game and have paled in some very tight game this year, just last week they beat West Mesa 28-27 thanks to a late field goal miss from the Mustangs. Onate has a quarterback by the name of Curtis Hynes that sees the field well throwing for just over 1,000-yards. Onate's rushing game is led by Isaiah Fielder who has ran for 747-yards this year. Onate's play-off hopes are shot if they don't take at least third in District 3-5A. Playing Las Cruces within 10 points will almost serve as a win.
Ruidoso 6-0 @ Silver 4-1
The marquee 3A contest is between two of the top teams in Class 3A. The winner will likely be ranked No. 2 overall in the next NMPreps.com Class 3A Rankings. As we go inside the numbers, Ruidoso is scoring 38.3 points per game this year and is off to their best start ever under Head Coach Kief Johnson. Ruidoso Quarterback Bryce Pompos has thrown for 810-yards and 10 touchdowns this year and has also ran for 506-yards on the ground. Ruidoso is also has a prime receiving threat in Parker Johnson who has caught for 490-yards and five touchdowns. If this becomes a scoring shootout, Ruidoso has the talent to win, also watch for Dylan Demerest on defense. The Silver Fighting Colts are 4-1 this year coming off their first loss of the season against Deming losing 14-12. At Quarterback is Junior Derek Salas and at Running Back is Nevada Bencomo who has ran for 200-yards a few times this year. On the defensive side of the ball, Silver has some big time players like Frank Castillo who has six interceptions and Dakota Bencomo, one of the top linebackers regardless of Class
Click Here to view this Link.
Alamogordo 2-3 @ Deming 3-2
The Alamogordo Tigers defeated Hobbs last weekend 34-14 thanks to 200-yards rushing from John Matzke. This Tiger team is still a question mark and they still have play-off hopes if they can put together a couple late season wins. They don't throw the football well and are not going to try to re-invent what they do this weekend. Stop the run and stop Alamogordo. The Wildcats now at 3-2 this year after a big 14-12 victory over Silver has a good amount of momentum and also has a power run game powered by Ismael Garrett who ran for over 200-yards last weekend against Silver. The Wildcats are scoring 24.8 points per game and have wins over Hot Springs, Santa Fe, and Silver. Beating Alamogordo would be huge for continued team morale.

Tularosa 4-2 @ Hatch Valley 3-2

Las Cruces JV @ Hot Springs

Mayfield 3-3 @ Gadsden 3-3
The Mayfield Trojans are 3-3 after a 34-24 victory over the Volcano Vista Hawks last Saturday and once again proved that they are a tough match up for any New Mexico team. Remember, Mayfield is 3-1 this year against New Mexico Teams, but their offense has been very slow to put points on the board scoring just 21.17 points per game. Mayfield Running Back Marcus Inglemon has ran for 519-yards and seven touchdowns. As for the Gadsden Panthers they are now .500 after losing to Roswell 15-12. The Panthers are scoring 23.5 points per game and allowing just 26.7.
Taos 4-1 @ Socorro 3-2
The Taos Tigers are coming off a 41-7 win over the Espanola Valley Sundevils and are scoring 24.0 points per game. On the season this surprise team of the season has been led by running backIsaac Gonzales who has ran for 636-yards and seven touchdowns. The Socorro Warriors lost a huge game last weekend against Hope Christian losing 21-14 and need this win to stay in the home field play-off race. Zeb Esquivel and Zach Binger are their top two scoring threats.
Tularosa 4-2 @ Hatch Valley 3-2
The Wildcats now 4-2 this year have a great opportunity to flex their muscle as the team to beat in District if they can get past Hatch Valley. Most seem to still have Hatch Valley as a question mark team, but from the looks of it Hatch Valley is a 2A contender. Tularosa is scoring 25.7 points per game and led by do-it-all threat Jim Coleman at 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds. Hatch Valley is led by Chase Carson at Quarterback who has thrown for 603 yards and 7 touchdowns. The Bears lost last weekend against Centennial 44-37, but are scoring 37.4 points per game which is impressive. We expect a high scoring shootout.
Cobre 3-3 @ Lordsburg 3-3
Another 2A marquee match up in district 3-2A and a rivalry game simply. The Cobre Indians are coming off a 41-8 win against Zuni and are scoring 20.38 points per game game. Lordsburg is coming off two wins in row over Anthony, Texas and Tornillo, Texas. The difference in this game is next level Lordsburg Running Back Prospect Wendell Hayes who has ran for 723-yards and 5 touchdowns this year.
