Today we recap the Saturday Night Games which took place in week 7 of the New Mexico High School Baskebtall Season.

APS Metro Championship
Saturday Night, Ryan Jones made a clear statement that he is one of the top players in the land by scoring 41 points against Cibola leading the Storm to a 69-63 win over the Cougars. The Storm now 14-1 on the season won the APS Metro Tournament in front a small crowd at Wise Pies Arena in Albuquerque. Cameron Dixon scored 22 for the Cougars.

Other Games Around New Mexico
The Hobbs Eagles remained hot beating Mayfied 89-58, thanks to Trey Nelson and Pierre Swain who combined for 41 points on the night. The Carlsbad Cavemen defeated the Onate Knights 82-72 despite 27 points from Isaiah Blanco and 25 from Johnny McCants. Volcano Vista defeated Sandia 78-53 and Albuquerque defeated Valley 68-54 in the APS Metro bracket.
In Class 5A: Centennial blasted Alamogordo 82-26, at half the Hawks were beating Alamogordo 50-11. In the end it was Omar Baez who scored 19, Joe Saterfield scored 12, and Cesar Molina scored 11. Roswell defeated Clovis 74-45, Daniel Amador scored 28 on the night Chris Mesquita added 12. Gallup made a big statement winning their own tournament beating Grants 70-63 in the championship game.
In Class 4A: Portales defeated Robertson 59-50. Portales is very hot right now defeating West Las Vegas and Robertson in back to back nights. Also at the Portales Rams Shootout, West Las Vegas had beat Clayton in overtime 70-69.
In Class 3A/2A: Tucumcari defeated Santa Fe Prep in overtime 62-60. Cliff defeated Lordsburg 57-44 to win the Lordsburg Tournament. NACA beat Eunice 55-52 to win the Bean Valley Tournament. Logan won the EPAC Boys Tournament beating Texico 69-55. Wyatt Strand scored 33 points to lead the way. Melrose beat Dora 60-48 in the EPAC 3rd place game, Wyatt Williams of Melrose scored 23.

Friday Recap

APS Metro Tournament - The 2014 APS Metro Tournament Boys Championship Game will be a Rio Rancho vs. Albuquerque final. No. 1 Cleveland who defeated No. 5 Atrisco Friday Night 80-61 will take on Cinderella Cibola, the No. 10 seed who defeated No. 6 Rio Rancho Friday Night 76-65.
Ryan Jones scored 35 for Cleveland, Christian Cunningham scored 24 for Cibola, Brady Patterson scored 23 for Rio Rancho. The two teams (Cleveland vs. Cibola) will square off Saturday Night at Wise Pies Arena at 6:00PM. In the consolation bracket Sandia beat Del Norte 71-68 thanks to 36 points from Sam Crews.
Other Games Across The State of New Mexico
In other Class 6A action: Hobbs defeated Gadsden 72-49 thanks to Kelvin Jones who poured in 24 points and Trey Nelson who scored 9 points and 9 assists. The Onate Knights beat Alamogordo 37-35 off a last second shot by Junior Johnny McCants in a thriller. McCants finished the night with 15 points and 8 rebounds. In
Class 5A Action: The Gallup Tournament Championship Game will be Gallup vs. Grants, in what could be a Class 5A Playoff Preview. Gallup defeated Shiprock 87-39, Grants beat Deming 71-56. Roswell picked up a big win over Permian, Texas winning 66-55, thanks to 28 points from Daniel Amador.
In small school hoops Portales made a statement with a 85-71 win over West Las Vegas. The Rams got 33 points from Junior Bronte Stagaaurd in the victory, which should come in very handy come seeding and selection time. St. Mike's held off a an overachieving Socorro team winning 57-47.
Laguna Acoma continued their dominance against New Mexico teams beating Tularosa 55-40, Clayton beat Robertson in a thriller winning 61-58 thanks to Mark Craine who scored 22, and Hagerman beat Gateway 59-49.

Today we recap the Wednesday Night APS Tournament Games which took place. Albuquerque is no longer undefeated after losing to Cibola by 6.

The Cibola Cougars had a lack luster performance during the Hobbs Holiday Tournament, earned a big win Wednesday Night against Albuquerque in a 60-54 victory. The Bulldogs had come into this game undefeated, the last remaining unbeaten team in Class 6A actually.
The Cougars were led by Christian Cunningham who scored 11 and 15 rebounds. Teammate Malik Liddell scored 16. The Cougars will be back in action Friday Night against district rival Rio Rancho.
The Cleveland Storm now 12-1 defeated a very stingy Valley Vikings team Wednesday Night by just 5 points. On the night, Cleveland was led by Ryan Jones and Marcus Williams who combined for an incredible 38 points.
The Storm will take on Atrisco Heritage in the semifinals Friday Night. Atrisco Heritage defeated district rival West Mesa by 3 Wednesday Night thanks to a 25 point performance from DeShawn Lucero.
Rio Rancho defeated Hope Christian for the 2nd time this year in a thriller winning 73-7-1 to move to 11-3 on the season. Brady Patterson finished with a game high 22 points. As mentioned the Rams will take on Cibola Friday Night at 7:15PM at Volcano Vista in the semifinals of the APS tournament.
