The 2017 New Mexico Mr. Basketball Award winner will be announced on April 28th. Today, the finalist for the award have been announced and your chance to vote for the winner.
Brenden Boatwright, 2017, Carlsbad High School
The big man for the Cavemen had one of the best careers for New Mexico players. This season Boatwright averaged 21.8 points per game, 10.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks. The Cavemen reached the 2017 State Tournament behind a 17-12 record and 8-4 in District 3-6A. Boatwright will play for Fort Lewis College in Colorado.
Juan Hurt, 2017, Rio Rancho High School
Hurt throughout the season established himself among the best of the guards. A fearless guard that can hit from any place on the court displaying his range each night. Also, a smart guard that could make big plays especially in the clutch moments.
Marcus Hill, 2017, Cleveland High School
The Cleveland Storm reached the Final Four this season behind his 13.7 points per game, 4.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds. Hill one of the best floor generals that players would build off for his ability to score. The Storm went 22-8, 7-1 this season. Hill recently signed a NLI to play for Northern New Mexico College.
John Rigatti, 2017, Desert AcademyÂ
Rigatti who is gaining interest to play at the next level was the top scorer in New Mexico during the 2016-2017 season. Rigatti averaged just shy of 30 points per game (29.9) to lead the Wildcats to a 15-12 record and made the 2017 State Tournament.
Mario Archuleta, 2018, Pecos High School
The only junior to top the list, Archuleta lead the Panthers to the 2017 State championship, was the 3A Player of the Year and still has a season to go. Archuleta, led the team in points per game with 17 points per game and 4 assists per contest.
Chris Mesquita, 2017, Roswell High School
When he was needed Mesquita came through as he guided the Roswell High School Coyotes to another State Championship. Mesquita won the 2017 5A Player of the Year after the impressive state tournament run. Mesquita averaged a double-double on the season with 12 points per game and 10 rebounds.
