The 2017 NMPreps.com New Mexico Mr. Football candidates are officially announced today, December 15th. The Mr. Football Award is similar to the Heisman trophy given to the top overall player in college football. In this case, the New Mexico Mr. Football award is given to the top player in New Mexico High School football for the 2017 football season.

2017 Mr. Football Candidates

BRANDON BAEZA
Las Cruces High School - 2018

Position: WR

Stats: 1,009-receiving yards with 8-touchdowns. 496-rushing yards with 2-touchdowns. 22-tackles and 2 interceptions on defense.

DIEGO CASILLAS
Belen High School - 2019

Position: RB

Casillas will be one of the most talked about talents returning for the 2018 football season. The junior led the state in rushing yards with 2,679-yards with 33-rushing (1st in NM) touchdowns. The Eagles went 12-1 this season and played for the 5A state championship.

GAVIN HARDISON 
Hobbs High School - 2018

Position: QB

Hardison will go down as one of the best quarterbacks to play high school football in New Mexico. His record-breaking season with 5,347-passing yards, 59-touchdowns with four games over 500-yards passing. He also had a pair of overall player of the week games. The Eagles went 9-3 and reached the 6A quarterfinals. He went 332-484 with 9 interceptions.

JORDAN BYRD
Manzano High School - 2018

Position: QB

If you had the pleasure of watching the Manzano Monarchs 6A State Championship season you would have enjoyed seeing one of the top prospects to come out of New Mexico. Byrd passed for 1,011-yards with 10-touchdowns along with rushing for 1,235-yards with 21-touchdowns for the Monarchs.

PRICE BOWEN
Capitan High School - 2018

Position: QB

Bowen has one of the most decorated high school careers and a name that we will remember when we recall the 2017 season. He passed for 1,358-yards with 21 touchdowns along with rushing for 1,052-yards with 18 touchdowns.

REECE WILKINSON
La Cueva High School - 2018 

Position: WR

Reece Wilkinson was one of the most talked about and known names of the group this season. Wilkinson took home Overall Player of the Week honors to open the season. He would finish with 1,162-yards and 17 touchdowns for the Bears.

ROWDY ROBINSON
Belen High School - 2018

Position: Linebacker

Rowdy Robinson is likely one of those athletes that you will remember when we think about the 2017 season. He led the state with 27 Sacks and one of the only defensive players to win Overall Player of the Week this season. He also had 109 total tackles (61 solo) and 33.5 TFL.

TAYLOR NULL
Artesia High School - 2018

Position: QB

Plenty to add to the career of Taylor Null as the Bulldogs won their 30th state championship in program history. The Bulldogs won three out of four championships while Null was in high school. A record-breaking season for Null that seen him pass for 3,792-yards and 52-touchdowns. He only had 4 interceptions and went 244-364 on the season.
