Today we highlight 30 of the top New Mexico High School Football Players to watch for the 2016 season. More: Message Boards | Football Rankings | Football Recruiting

D1 Prospects

More on Samuels: One of the top running backs we have had in New Mexico. This summer he posted a vertical jump of 45 inches and attended Nike's prestigious opening event. Committed to Michigan in mid-summer over several other offers. Last year he ran for 1,590-yards and 19 touchdowns. First game is in Aztec, New Mexico against the Tigers at 7:00PM MST.

More On Weaver: Piedra Vista jumps into Class 6A this year and they will be headlined by 6-foot-6, 280 pound Dylan Weaver who committed to Texas Tech this summer. All District last year, put on 35-40 pounds since last year and has tremendous upside when talking about an offensive tackle. First game is against Farmington High School on August 26th at 7:00PM.

More on Young: His father Fred Young is a member of the New Mexico State Hall of Fame and also played in the NFL for the Seattle Seahawks. Matthew Young has the size, speed, and athleticism to contribute earlier on for the Aggies and should have a monster year for the Knights. He moves incredibly well for his size. First game is against the defending state champs Cleveland on August 27th (Saturday) at 1PM.

More on Swinson: Was recently named the 2016 NMPreps.com Elite Combine MVP as he sliced up the competition on July 22nd. Great hands, gets off of man coverage well, and has great body control allowing him to make the catch across the middle of the field or during deep ball grabs. The Trojans will have 3 D1 Prospects on offense entering 2016. First game is against Rio Rancho in Las Cruces on Friday, August 26th.

More on Hertz: Rio Rancho, New Mexico continues to put out D1 prospects and the next looks to be Logan Hertz a 6-foot-5, 275 pound tackle out of Rio Rancho. Hertz has an offer on the table from Montana and is being recruited by both New Mexico and New Mexico State. The Rams have a ton of talent returning into 2016 and as you know it all starts up front. First game is against Mayfield on the road in Las Cruces on Friday Night, August 26th.

More on Brohard: Los Lunas believe it or not will enter the 2016 season with D1 prospects. O'maury Samuels being the other. Brohard looked the part as a junior and after pulling in a few D2 offers, the New Mexico Aggies offered and he committed. Over 70 tackles as a junior, can also play tight end on offense.

More on Cormier: Big time playmaker for the Hawks last year as a junior. Currently holds offers from New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Illinois, and has also been contacted by Wake Forest. He's the best receiver in Albuquerque and should prove that very soon. His size causes problems for corners inside the red-zone.

More on Vance: The Mayfield Running Back out of the Class of 2017 is a touchdown machine. Last year he racked up closed to 2,000-yards and had some of the most electrifying runs we've seen, ever. He has has a great swagger about him and he holds offers from New Mexico State as well as Kent State who has newly offered. Biggest game breaker we have in New Mexico this season is no doubt Vance. First game is against Rio Rancho in Las Cruces on Friday, August 26th.

More on Byrd: The most dangerous prospect coming out of the Class of 2018 is no doubt Jordan Byrd from Manzano High School. Kid is just an incredible athlete and straight up the fastest player in New Mexico running a true 4.3 or 4.4 40-time. Has been offered by New Mexico and more offers should follow. Can play quarterback, running back, receiver, defensive back, punt returner, kick returner, whatever. He is a Friday Night showstopper. Manzano opens up against Atrisco Heritage on Thursday August 25th at 7PM.

More on Locklin: Played late in the season for the Trojans as a sophomore did work proving to be a dependable dual threat. Has an offer from New Mexico State and as he matures, you have to think he lands a few additional offers. As mentioned the Trojans enter the season with 3 D1 prospects on offense. First game is against Rio Rancho in Las Cruces on Friday, August 26th.
