RIO RANCHO, N.M. – Prior to Cleveland taking the field Wednesday evening against Eldorado for the final 7-on-7 matchup of the summer, Storm coach Heath Ridenour and his staff handed out helmets, shoulder pads and other assorted football equipment to the CHS players.

Moments after Cleveland hung on for a close, hard-fought victory over the Eagles, Ridenour delivered an unambiguous message to his players circled around him: 7-on-7 season was over and the time had come to play real football.

Preseason camp begins July 31 for all high school classifications in New Mexico.

“If you’re not excited to get your equipment, we might have to check your pulse,” Ridenour told NMPreps. “This is always an exciting day for the kids. We get it handed out before we head off to the coaching clinic. We’ll be ready to rock ‘n roll on July 31.”
