Today we recap the Week 2 New Mexico High School Football action from Saturday. Centennial came from behind to beat Manzano, Oante held off Atrisco, and Belen rolled against Atrisco Heritage.

Centennial 28, Manzano 21 Final
The Centennial Hawks trailed 21-7 at the half against Manzano Saturday at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces. It was the first time that Head Centennial Football Coach Aaron Ocampo faced off against Manzano since leaving the Monarchs four seasons ago. Manzano jumped on the board after a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Jordan Byrd, then went up 14-0 when Michael Roybal ran for a 51-yard touchdown. The Hawks got on the board first when Joaquin Gutierrez scored from 1-yard out, but Manzano would add another touchdown right before half when Roybal threw a touchdown to Andrew Erickson to make it 21-7 at the break. The Hawks held Manzano to -10 offense yards in the 2nd half, Hawk Quarterback Dante Lopez found Bryce Thatcher to make it 21-13, then Lopez found Brenden Padilla to make it 21-21 after a successful two point conversion. The Hawks would get another touchdown from Gutierrez with 9-seconds left in the game to make it a 28-21 final. Manzano is now 1-1 and will take on Cibola in week 3, Centennial is now 2-0 and will take on La Cueva next weekend.
Onate 14, Atrisco Heritage 6 Final
In Albuquerque the Onate Knights moved to 1-1 on the season beating Atrisco Heritage now 0-2 by just a touchdown. Onate got on the board first when Sal Yanez scored on a 5-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0, Onate then scored their next touchdown when Jayden Diaz threw a touchdown to Tanner Getz to make it 14-0 at the half. The Jaguars would score late in the 4th when Micahel Alvidrez hit Richard Tucker for a 30-yard touchdown. The Knights will take on 2-0 Sandia next week in Las Cruces.
Belen 63, Highland 22 Final
The Belen Eagles offense put on another clinic under first year Head Coach Greg Hennington scoring 9 touchdowns against Highland on Saturday to move to 2-0. On the year Belen has scored 105 points which is a 52.5 average. They take on Farmington in week 3.
Albuquerque 37, Valencia 6 Final
The Bulldogs earned their first win of the season under Head Coach Timothy Johnson defeating the Valencia Jaguars 37-6 on Saturday. The Bulldogs were led by Santiago Williams who scored 3 touchdowns and had over 200-yards receiving. The Bulldogs are now 1-1 on the year and will take on Eldorado in two weeks. Valencia is now 0-2 and will host the Artesia Bulldogs on September 9th.
